‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is a significant show for plenty of reasons, the most being tied to the fact that it’s the first live-action show (second overall) to take place during the High Republic. An era in Star Wars lore that was marked by the massive influence of Jedi, as the order was during its golden age during this time period.

Not much is known about the premise of the show except that someone (or something) is hunting down Jedi all across the galaxy and systematically killing them off. It’s going to be a Jedi detective story with a dark twist, and based on Leslye Headland’s previous interviews, we should really be rooting for the underdog and the “bad guy” in the show.

One of the recent trailers for the show also teased the addition of the so-called “Lightwhip,” it is one unique and very special weapon historically carried by Vernestra Rwoh, a book-accurate character set to play a major role in ‘The Acolyte.’

Lightwhips are unique weapons resembling whips but made of lightsaber energy. They were occasionally wielded by Jedi during the Sith Wars, particularly effective against certain Sith techniques. However, by the High Republic Era, they became rare among Jedi but were adopted by the Nightsisters, a group of dark-side users from Dathomir.

After being promoted to Jedi Knight, Vernestra Rwoh stationed at Port Haileap had a Force vision guiding her to modify her lightsaber, adding a lightwhip mode activated by twisting the hilt’s first ring. She kept this alteration secret for weeks, practicing privately. She finally revealed it to Padawan Imri Cantaros after their group, including Avon Starros, Honesty Weft, and droids J-6 and SD-7, became stranded on the jungle moon Wevo following an attack on the cruiser Steady Wing, using the whip mode to clear brush quickly for shelter from acid rain.
