Sony Pictures initially planned spin-off films featuring Spider-Man villains after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (2014) but abandoned the idea due to its reception. In February 2015, Sony collaborated with Marvel Studios to integrate Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This partnership led to the release of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017), “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019), and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021). Meanwhile, Sony independently developed “Venom” (2018) and its sequel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), along with “Morbius” (2022), which featured connections to the MCU through mid-credits scenes.

When ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was released and Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were a part of it, the fans of the MCU took it as a good sign that the actors (and the characters) might return to a more permanent role.

Now according to the latest rumors, this likely won’t be the case. Sony is considering bringing back both actors but not to the MCU. Apparently, Sony has its own plans for Multiverse and would like to use both characters for these plans.

These rumors are according to Daniel Richtman, notable leaker and scooper.

Fans didn’t take this all that well, considering the current state of the SSU in terms of quality, the majority of people don’t want Magurie and Garfield sharing cinematic universe with Madame Web and Morbius.
