Wyatt Oleff as Kid Flash & 45 Other Most Interesting DCU Fan Casting
Join the community on Reddit for the latest Marvel & DC news!
When James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooted DCEU into the newly created DCU, fans knew that some of our favorite actors would have to bid farewell to roles they played for nearly a decade.
Notable roles like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. will have to be recast, no matter how much fans hated the idea of saying goodbye to Cavill’s Superman. But, this also presented us with the opportunity to play around with the roles and suggested some highly improbable but nonetheless interesting picks for the roles. The fandom has spoken and now we present you with the best fan castings we were able to find online.
Wyatt Oleff as Kid Flash
Wyatt Oleff could be a strong choice for Kid Flash. Known for his roles in ‘It’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ Oleff has demonstrated his ability to handle both dramatic and comedic elements, which would be useful for portraying the energetic and often light-hearted Kid Flash.
Brandon Sklenar as Batman
Brandon Sklenar could be an interesting choice for Batman, depending on the direction the character takes. Known for his roles in ‘1923’ and ‘The Offer’, Sklenar certainly proved that he has the brooding presence and physicality to portray the character well.
Ewan McGregor as Doctor Fate
Ewan McGregor could potentially be an excellent choice for Doctor Fate. He has the acting range and presence to embody the character’s mystical and enigmatic qualities. McGregor has demonstrated his ability to play complex and layered roles primarily with his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars franchise.
Mia Goth as Harley Quinn
Mia Goth truly has a knack for portraying unsettling characters. Harley Quinn’s character thrives on a mix of charm, madness, and a dark sense of humor, all of which Goth could potentially capture in a distinct way. Her take on the character would likely have to a lot darker than what we’re used to seeing, but hey, this is what Elseworlds label is for!
Zendaya as Starfire
Starfire is known for her striking physical presence and athleticism and Zendaya demonstrated that as well. She also has a strong fan base that could draw more attention to the character and any related projects, which is why fans are pitching for the role in the upcoming ‘Titans’ DCU project.
Jenna Ortega as Raven
Jenna Ortega could be a strong choice for the role of Raven as she is already associated with such roles thanks to her Wednesday portrayal. Raven’s dark, introspective nature and her struggle with her powers and emotions could benefit from Ortega’s nuanced acting skills. Honestly, this is one of the best fan castings on this list.
Ryan Reynolds as Booster Gold
I’m aware that there are some serious allegations going around that Kumail Nanjiani has been cast as DCU’s Booster Gold. Still, plenty of fans hate that idea and I’m not exactly a fan of it either, considering the actor’s performance in MCU’s ‘Eternals.’ Plenty of fans believe that Reynolds would be a much better fit for the role with his natural charisma and humor.
Deadpool & Booster Gold really aren’t that similar characters at all, but one thing they do have in common, naturally goofiness is something that Reynolds can embody perfectly.
Alexandra Shipp as Starfire
Alexandra Shipp is in this context mostly famous for her portrayal of Storm in the ‘X-Men’ franchise. Although she stated that she is no longer interested in the role, there’s no reason for the actress not to make the jump to the newly established DCU. Shipp already proved she can pull off a superhero character, and despite her start physical differences with the original characters, fans seemed to be fond of this idea.
Jude Law as Brainiac
Jude Law is already quite familiar with massive superhero universes as he portrayed Yon-Rogg in ‘Captain Marvel.’ Obviously, he is quite comfortable playing a vicious villain and his previous roles are evidence enough that he would be bale to portray someone as complex and unhinged as Brainiac. As far as physical looks go, we will leave that task to the practical effects crew!
Luke Evans as Sinestro
Luke Evans could make an excellent Sinestro, due to his tendency to play generally commanding roles. Sinestro is a complex villain with a strong sense of justice twisted by his own ideals, and Evans’ acting range could bring depth to such a layered character. His previous roles have showcased his skill in playing characters with a dark edge, making him a fitting choice for the role.
John Boyega as Cyborg
Boyega recently said to a fan that he is not interested in the potential role of Kang the Conqueror, and we speculated that it’s most likely due to the previous way in which Disney treated him during Star Wars sequels. However, he doesn’t have such a history with the newly established DCU. Boyega’s experience in action-packed roles can certainly only serve as a plus.
Glen Powell & Sydney Sweeney as Green Arrow & Black Canary
Both Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney are currently massive stars who keep lining up roles, and if you keep reading our list you will notice that their names pop up quite a lot of times. In any case, fans have chosen Powell and Sweeney as the most likely duo to play Black Canary and Green Arrow mostly due to their physical similarity to the characters. Sweeney has bigger odds joining the DCU however due to her experience in superhero movies such as recently released ‘Madame Web.’
Pablo Schreiber as Bane
Schreiber has a strong physical presence, which is crucial for portraying Bane, known for his imposing stature and physicality. Schreiber also proved his highly versatile acting range in projects like ‘American Gods,’ ‘Orange is the New Black’ and most recently ‘Halo’ a live-action adaptation. There’s also that matter with Bane’s voice, something that Schreiber proved he can modify if the role calls for it.
Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn
Kaley Cuoco has already proven herself to be an excellent Harley Quinn. She voices the character in the animated series “Harley Quinn,” which premiered on DC Universe and later moved to HBO Max. Cuoco’s performance has been widely praised for bringing a unique and entertaining take on the character and this is why she is one of the fan picks for the live-action role.
Tom Hiddleston as The Joker
Tom Hiddleston embodied the most notable trickster in the rival cinematic universe, and due to that role he is one of the most recognizable faces of the franchise. Due to his experience in portraying mischief and complex emotions, fans have voiced their desire to see Hiddleston as the Clown Prince of Crime in Gunn’s DCU. Besides, green has always been his color.
Idris Elba as Martian Manhunter
Idris Elba could be an excellent choice for Martian Manhunter, or at least the fans seem to think so. Elba’s ability to portray both physical strength and emotional nuance would be well-suited for the role of the Martian Manhunter, a character known for his wisdom, compassion, and warrior spirit. Additionally, his experience in both dramatic and action roles would make him a perfect addition to the DCU.
Alexander Skarsgard as Aquaman
No one will ever forget Momoa’s Aquaman, partly due to his performance and partly due to being one of the highest-grossing DCEU movies. However, with Gunn’s reboot of the entire cinematic universe, we can expect a new Arthur Curry to be cast. Fans chose Skarsgard as one of the best fits for the role due to his imposing on-screen presence, physical resemblance to Aquaman, and experience playing fantasy roles.
Morena Baccarin as Wonder Woman
Morena Baccarin has certainly demonstrated versatility and charisma in her roles, she also has experience with superhero movies. But admittedly, fans likely cast Baccarin in the role of a Wonder Woman due to her physical similarities to the character, which is how 90 % of fan castings works in any case.
Jack Quaid as The Flash
Quaid has plenty of experience playing (and voicing) superheroes. His previous performances have shown a blend of wit, charm, and comedic timing, which are essential qualities for portraying the fast-paced character of The Flash. His youthful appearance is also a major plus, which is why fans consider him perfect for the role.
Luke Evans as Batman
Evans has a strong and imposing physical presence, which is kind of a key trait for Batman on-screen to have. e has demonstrated versatility in various roles, showing he can handle both dramatic depth and action-oriented scenes effectively. He is also quite charismatic, which would help portray Wayne’s playboy persona.
Olivia Cooke as Mera
Currently, Oliva Cooke is best known for her role as Alicent Hightower in ‘House of the Dragon,’ but if James Gunn ever decides to include Mera in the DCU, fans would love to see the actress in the role. She showed that she could pull off a queenly and composed character, and we think she would be great as Queen of Atlantis.
Sydney Sweeney as Harley Quinn
Sydney Sweeney is one of the most popular young actresses today which is why she can be found on fan casting lists often, on several spots. One of the most notable pitched roles for Sweeney is that of Harley Quinn, and we have to admit that the actress truly does have a presence strong enough on-screen to pull it off.
Tom Hiddleston as Constantine
Hiddleston has a significant fan following, particularly from his role as Loki, and this is why he is most often fan-cast in the DCU – as Constantine. The role is mostly associated with Keanu Reeves, but I have to admit Hiddleston would do a much better job. Constantine is traditionally depicted as a British occult detective with a sharp wit and cynical humor. Hiddleston’s British background and ability to deliver dry wit and sarcasm would align well with the character’s personality traits.
Travis Fimmel as Green Arrow
Green Arrow has always been a character larger than life with a strong screen presence and charisma. One actor who physically resembles Oliver Queen and has a strong presence is Travis Fimmel. His experience playing Ragnar Lothbrok in ‘Vikings’ demonstrated his ability to handle intense action scenes and physical combat convincingly. Fimmel also proved he can play incredibly witty characters. Let’s also not forget that Fimmel portrayed Anduin Lothar in the ‘Warcraft’ movie, and I’m still waiting for a sequel!!
Sophie Turner as Black Canary
Turner already has experience when it comes to superhero role as she portrayed Jean Grey in Fox’s X-Men franchise. Turner could embody Black Canary due to her acting range, physical presence, and potential to bring depth to the character. Her experience portraying complex roles in ‘Game of Thrones’ demonstrates her ability to handle intense and layered characters.
Antony Starr as Reverse-Flash
It’s hard to think of a villain more degenerate and sociopathic than Reverse-Flash, it just so happens that Antony Starr has experience playing this kind of villain – Homelander.
Starr’s performance in ‘The Boys’ season 4, so far has been phenomenal, especially his portrayal of the character literally losing his shit.
Dave Bautista as Darkseid
Dave Bautista was a professional wrestler before he rose to prominence in the MCU playing the role of Drax. Since then the actor stated he wished to take on more serious roles. Bautista most recently appeared in Villeneuve’s megahit ‘Dune: Part Two’ as Glossu Rabban, and fans loved him in the role.
Bautista is most often fan-cast as Darkseid, mostly due to his physically imposing presence on-screen, and he already has experience with superhero franchises. Gunn also asked fans several months back to find him a role in the DCU.
Alexandra Daddario as Zatanna
Despite being one of the most powerful magic users in DC, Zatanna rarely appears in live-action. There was a plan to develop her standalone movie, which was ultimately scrapped, and according to fans, Daddario was a top contender for the role. Daddario would be perfect as Zatanna due to her piercing blue eyes, shapely body, and her extremely expressive face.
Alexandra Daddario as Wonder Woman
For many DCEU fans, Gal Gadot was the perfect Wonder Woman, however, when Gunn took over the cinematic universe and rebranded him, he decided to not move forward with the planned Wonder Woman project. Recently, he also cleared up that DCU’s Wonder Woman wasn’t cast yet meaning that Gadot definitely won’t return to reprise her role.
This is where Alexandra Daddario comes in. Daddario has a physical presence and striking blue eyes that could embody the iconic look of Wonder Woman. Her athletic build and height align well with the Amazonian warrior’s stature. It’s only natural that she is among fan picks for the role.
Bill Skarsgård as Joker
Bill Skarsgård’s major breakthrough came in ‘It’ directed by Andy Muschietti, the director said something very peculiar about his acting ability: “One second he can act all cute, and then the next, there’s something ancestral and dark that just appears. His ability to transform is mind-blowing to me.” This is kind of a quality that we should be looking for in our next Joker.
He is unhinged but also blood-chilling and serious when he needs to be.
David Tennant as Edward Nygma
Tennant’s most notable role to the majority of fans is that of the 10th Doctor in planetary popular ‘Doctor Who’ franchise. Taking into account Tennant’s range of acting (and the emotions he is able to convey through his facial expressions) he would truly be a good fit for an unhinged villain such as Edward Nygma.
Besides, he already has experience playing a similar role as he portrayed Purple Man in Netflix’s ‘Jessica Jones,’ a role he confirmed he would really like to return to as he stated recently.
Ving Rhames as Lex Luthor
If there is a character on this list that can play an extremely wide range of characters, it’s Rhames. From heroes to villains, his versatility would allow him to bring depth and nuance to Luthor’s complex personality. He also has a deep, distinctive voice that could add to the menacing and authoritative aura of Lex Luthor. I swear it’s not just beacuse he is bald! Fans have spoken!
There’s one catch though, for Rhames to be Luthor we need to get a much older version of Supes as well.
Timothée Chalamet as Nightwing
Timothée Chalamet is one of the most popular young actors currently. He’s been lining up blockbuster roles in ‘Dune’ franchise, ‘Woka,’ ‘Don’t Look Up’ and numerous other hit movies. This is why fans got him on their radar to play Dick Grayson aka Nightwing.
With the upcoming ‘Teen Titans’ live-action movies, Gunn would be wise to look in his direction. Chalamet has both the physique and screen presence to pull it off.
Mark Strong as Lex Luthor
Mark Strong is a spitting image of comic-accurate Lex Luthor, and the actor also has experience playing villains. Strong appeared as Sinestro in ‘Green Lantern,’ and as Doctor Thaddeus Sivana in both ‘Shazam’ movies released under the DCEU banner.
Now that DCEU is no more, and if Gunn ever considers focusing on older Superman and Luthor, he knows who to call.
Morena Baccarin as Catwoman
Morena Baccarin will reprise her role in the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ as Wade’s love interest Vanessa. However, as DCU is slowly growing and new projects are planned, fans have expressed a desire to see Baccarin as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Her natural sex appeal and experience with superhero flicks make her a perfect fit for the role.
Andrew Garfield as Barry Allen
DCEU’s Flash wasn’t all that popular primarily beacuse he was played by the highly-controversial Ezra Miller. DCU offered us the opportunity to enjoy a new live-action actor and fans apparently want to see former (current??) Spider-Man as the crimson speedster.
Andrew has the physiology for it and that boyish charm, so what do you think?
Emilia Clarke as Mera
Clarke got planetary famous with the role of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s hit show ‘Game of Thrones.’ Most recently she appeared as Skrull G’iah in MCU’s ‘Secret Invasion’ and is currently one of the most powerful characters. It appears that fans can’t get enough of Clarke as they often fan-cast her as potential Mera is Gunn’s DCU as well.
Who knows, maybe Gunn is brave enough to introduce Mera after the role was held by scandalous Amber Heard.
John David Washington as John Stewart
One of the projects currently in development at DCU is the ‘Lanterns’ live-action TV show focusing on three notable Green Lanterns. We already know that Nathan Fillion will be portraying Guy Gardner, but we have no idea about the rest of the cast. Fans however made it known that John David Washington would be perfect to portray John Stewart in the show.
Alan Ritchson as Bane
Alan Ritchson wants to play Batman but fans have different plans, to see him as his greatest nemesis Bane. Bane was already brilliantly portrayed by Tom Hardy in Nolan’s Batman movies, but fans noted that Ritchson has both the physique and demeanor to pull off the villain.
Amber Heard as Supergirl
Yikes. The role of Supergirl is already held by Milly Alcock in the DCU, but before the role went to her, fans cast Amber Heard for the role. Yes, the Amber Heard who portrayed Mera in the DCEU and was the subject of a highly publicized trial against her former spouse Johnny Depp.
Glen Powell as Hal Jordan
Powell said that he isn’t really into playing superheroes, but he did state that he would like to play Batman. Fans agree that he wouldn’t be a good fit as the Dark Knight but the ‘Top Gun’ actor certainly has the personality to embody the most popular Green Lantern there is.
Melissanthi Mahut as Wonder Woman
Melissanthi Mahut is a Canadian Greek-American actress most notable for her role as Kassandra in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which is as close as you can get to portraying Wonder Woman in gaming without the character actually being Wonder Woman. Melissanthi has everything going for her, the heritage, the looks and the physique so it’s no wonder that she is top fan-cast for the role.
Chris Pratt as Booster Gold
Pratt himself started the rumors a few weeks ago when he stated that he’s going to appear both in the MCU and the DCU. Since ‘Booster Gold’ show was talked about during that time fans jumped to conclusions to take it as confirmation that Pratt would be portraying the character. Pratt has both the looks and the goofy personality to portray him well.
Antony Starr as Booster Gold
Starr is most famous for portraying Homelander in ‘The Boys,’ and although he never really expressed interest in playing the character, fans noticed that he is on really good terms with director, James Gunn and well, connected the dots. As far as similarities between the two characters go, the only thing Starr has going for him is a similarity to Booster.
Alan Ritchson as Batman
Yes, it’s Batman again, but this time, it is Ritchson’s fanbase that’s making rounds by presenting him as the top pick for The Dark Knight. The ‘Reacher’ star also expressed commitment to the role stating that he is willing to shout it from the rooftops if needed. Ritchson is drawn to the character beacuse of the gadgets and intelligence.
Jensen Ackles as Batman
Jensen Ackles already voiced the animated version of the character, but the actor also expressed the desire to play one of the most iconic DC characters on screen as well. Jensen has the physique, he has the voice, and the will, and fans certainly lobby for him to get the role as soon as possible.
