‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The show arrives on Disney+ on June 4th and it promises to be a completely different adventure.
The show will be set during the High Republic Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jedi Order due to their overwhelming numbers, and it seems that Headland is trying to use that setting to prove that Jedi don’t have the monopoly on Force and that they do too can be bad guys when context is given.
Since the show takes place in a completely different time period than the rest of the live-action portion of the franchise, plenty of fans were wondering whether Yoda, one of the most notable Jedi of all time could appear in the show. The timeline does checks out and it would be accurate due to the long life span of his species.
The creator of the show however, Leslye Headland cleared up that Yoda or any notable character we’ve seen in the past won’t make an appearance in the show:
Can you imagine? Can you imagine if they were like, ‘No problem, you can use Yoda. Not a big deal. Go for it.’ No, there is not… We are pulling characters from the High Republic and characters from EU, but that’s it.
Headland explained that her main inspiration was High Republic Era books, and one notable character from the books will make an appearance in the show Vernestra Rwoh played by Rebecca Henderson. Her character will notably wield the lightwhip, which stirred some controversy ahead of the show’s release.
Headland confirmed that ‘The Acolyte’ will feature a cast without familiar faces from other Star Wars shows and movies. The story follows Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) investigating the murder of another Jedi, suspecting his former Padawan, Osha (Amandla Stenberg). The plot appears to involve a larger conspiracy that will unfold over the show’s eight episodes.
