DC’s movie adaptations of comics currently feature two live-action Batmen. One is in Gunn’s upcoming ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ while the other is part of a project spun off from the DCEU under the ‘Elseworlds’ label: Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman,’ starring Robert Pattinson.

‘The Batman’ was planned as the first in a trilogy of movies. Soon after its release, ‘The Batman – Part II’ was announced. In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves discussed ideas for future Batman films, including introducing Robin and featuring various villains like the Court of Owls. Then, in April 2022, Warner Bros. announced the development of the next Batman film, with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson starring.

The movie faced some delays a few months ago and nothing was heard ever since until a rumor started spreading on social media that Part 2 and Part 3 will be shot back-to-back in 2025.

This naturally shocked fans, since part 3 is currently not confirmed when it comes to studio and it will most likely depend on the success of Part 2. Since Gunn is currently the voice of DC Studio on social media, he took it upon himself to debunk these rumors.

While announcing that Freddie Stroma will be reprising his role as Vigilante in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, Gunn was asked whether it was true that Part 2 and Part 3 will be filming back-to-back in 2025. Gunn answered, “It is not.”

Following news of the delay, instead of releasing in October 2025, the movie is expected to hit cinemas on October 2, 2026. Several reasons have been given for the delay but none has been officially confirmed, ranging from the SAG-AFTRA strike to possible theories that Gunn doesn’t want competition for his own Batman.

The filming for ‘The Batman Part II’ is supposed to begin in April next year, with the cast news arriving this fall. Fans noted that this seems a bit late, but whatever is currently happening with this film, it’s probably going to make sense in hindsight.

The cast & the plot of the movie remain largely unknown. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
