‘The Acolyte’ Sees the Drop in Viewership for a Third Week in a Row, No Longer in Top 10 Most Popular Shows

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’s’ finale is now a single episode away, and despite a rather strong episode 5, episode 6 undid most of the momentum and we’re back to a slow-paced, minimal-action episode.

‘The Acolyte’ has been losing viewers for two weeks in a row. After an initial 31% drop in “minutes watched,” the show lost an additional 11% in “minutes watched” last week, and now it’s no longer in the top 10 “most watched” shows according to Luminate’s data provided by Variety.

This data is definitely surprising, considering that Reelgood’s data published by Screenrant showed that ‘The Acolyte’ is the second most popular show, being surpassed only by ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi.’ But as I’ve written in that piece, that data were heavily skewed to present a more favorable presentation for ‘The Acolyte,’ and they only reported the data for the first 14 days since the show’s release, and at that time, it was definitely popular.

So, why is ‘The Acolyte’ performing so poorly? We can’t keep talking about review-bombing and fan backlash since those types of people never watched the show in the first place. In my opinion, it’s due to the show’s weird pacing, bad dialogue, and overall awkward acting. The show just did not meet the quality expectations that the likes of ‘The Mandalorian’ and even ‘Ahsoka’ delivered, and plenty of fans that were initially interested in the show slowly gave up, since the story barely progressed and we’re already 6 episodes in, with only two more to go.

Yes the villain reveal was fine, and we can look forward to at least one major fight until the show ends, but, is that really all? I feel like fans expected more, especially from a show that introduced the High Republic Era to live-action.

In any case, I doubt that ‘The Acolyte’s’ numbers will improve in the last two episodes, and how that will affect the prospects of the potential season 2, remains to be seen.
