As one of the world’s most popular superhero series, The Boys has captivated audiences. The fourth season, which began airing on June 13, 2024, is approaching its finale. With high ratings and a Certified Fresh status, Amazon has also reported increased viewership for the series.
However, some fans are review-bombing the season due to its heightened political undertones. A notable aspect of this political satire is the introduction of Firecracker, a new supervillain playing a significant role this season. In the most recent episode, Firecracker is involved in a shocking and grotesque scene with Homelander.
Actress Valorie Curry, who portrays Firecracker this season, spoke to Variety about that specific scene. She shared her thoughts and experiences filming it, as well as how the scene was developed. In this report, we will reveal her insights.
The scene in question is the breastfeeding scene, where Curry’s character, Firecracker, reveals she took medication to produce breast milk in an effort to please Homelander. Faced with this revelation and the chance to drink the milk directly from the source, Homelander eagerly accepts, as shown here:
While undeniably disgusting, the scene aligns with the episode’s tone. Many viewers found it hard to watch, but it will undoubtedly become one of the most iconic moments in The Boys, pushing the limits of what Kripke and his writers can present in their twisted narrative.
As expected, the scene required extensive preparation. Actress Valorie Curry spoke to Variety about it, revealing that filming went smoothly:
“I love how that scene played so much, because we both came to it with this utter vulnerability and full of sincerity — which just makes it so much fucking weirder,” Curry said. “But with Firecracker, despite her just insanity and the things that she spews, she has this uncanny ability to know what people need, whether it’s in a crowd or it’s one on one.
And even Homelander, she can see the human inside that shell, and she can see what that human needs, even if it looks like a bizarre fetish on the outside. And she’s willing to give him that also, because she’s not afraid of him — she should be. But she truly believes her vision of who he is, so she feels like she has no reason to be afraid of him, and makes herself so vulnerable to his vulnerability. It’s so intimate.”

The actors were well aware of the scene’s symbolic value for the show while filming, and it’s reassuring to know that everything went smoothly and all parties were satisfied with the final result.
With The Boys likely to deliver more such scenes before the season concludes, stay tuned for all the latest updates!
