Feige Teases a Massive Role ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Have For the Future of X-Men in the MCU

Only a few weeks stand between us and the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The highly anticipated movie seems to be a turning point for the MCU. After a series of box office flops and mediocre projects, the latest projections for the movie predict that Disney has the biggest box office success of this year on its hands.

But besides the potential monetary gain, the movie also teases something that fans have been waiting for since Disney purchased Fox, and with it, the rights to X-Men.

As we all know, mutants are already in the MCU, Namor, Kamala Khan and Professor X have already been introduced in one way or another, but there’s been little or no mention or references to X-Men themselves.

Now with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ this changes, as the majority of the movie’s rumored and confirmed cameos in the movie will be of characters that appeared in the former Fox X-Men franchise.

We know that MCU’s reboot of the X-Men franchise is in the works currently, with Michael Lesslie tapped to write the script for the upcoming movie. There have also been rumors that Deadpool & Wolverine will appear in the future of the MCU.

While Feige declined to comment on these rumors, he did tease that the era of X-Men in the MCU starts with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

which is, July 26 is really when it all starts, when Deadpool & Wolverine comes out.

This is not the first time that the upcoming movie is brought into a direct connection with the X-Men live-action reboot. Recently, industry insider Alex Perez revealed that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ seems to be the key project when it comes to mutants in the MCU:

Too early to tell, but from what I understand, the MCU iteration of the X-Men will be introduced post-Secret Wars. And there’s a reason for that, which will be explained in Deadpool and Wolverine.

According to earlier reports, ‘Secret Wars’ is slated to serve as a reboot for the MCU, focusing on integrating the Fantastic Four and X-Men into the current cinematic universe, and cutting loose pretty much everything else.
