There’s two weeks separating us from the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ the MCU’s only movie released this year. The movie is significant for several reasons. First, it’s going to drop Deadpool smack in the middle of the MCU, after existing in Fox’s X-Men franchise for most of the installments. It’s the MCU’s first R-rated movie and a major milestone for mutants in the MCU.
It’s also a movie that’s supposed to reignite the interest that fans used to hold for the MCU. After a series of box-office bombs and mediocre projects, the early projections show that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ might be Disney’s most profitable movie this year, perhaps surpassing even ‘Inside Out 2.’
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are currently on a press tour promoting the movie, and during an event in London first 30+ minutes of footage was shown. The first reactions are unanimously positive, stating that Disney did nothing to reign in Reynolds and by extension Deadpool.
Despite there being ample promotional materials, such as images, trailers, short videos, etc, it seems that those were cleverly constructed not to give anything away. We can also expect the landscape of the MCU to change forever.
Truly, the fact that we can’t find a single negative thing written about this movie is an excellent sign. For more substantial reviews we’re going to have to wait a bit more when social media and review embargo lifts. The audiences will have the opportunity to check out the movie only on July 26 when it arrives in theaters worldwide.
