The latest episode of ‘The Acolyte’ showed us what we suspected all along, that twins Osha and Mae are way more similar to Anakin than we would like. In episode 7 we learned that the Jedi were on an assignment on Brendok for a reason – they were looking for the so-called Force Vergence – a space where the Force is strong and flows freely, allowing it to be manipulated or used by Force users who connect with it.
At one point while analyzing the twins’ blood, the Jedi discovered that Vergence was involved in the creation of Osha and Mae. The girls are highly sensitive to the force and their unique force signature seems like that of one person separated in two, something that only Vergence can do.
The manner in which twins were discovered fel too close to the movies, Qui-Gon Jinn states that he found vergence centering around a child (Anakin) and he turned out to be really special, with his status as the chosen one affecting every single life in the Galaxy, for better or the worse.
Fans naturally had objections to this and would prefer for Osha and Mae to have a more original story, rather than being dependent on Anakin’s, which is the most special in Star Wars canon so far.
Later in the subsequent interview, Headland tried to defend this by claiming that fans are focusing on the wrong things. This power that Anakin was created with existed for thousands of years, and many, including Witches of Brendok, could have tapped into it.
Now in her latest interview with Nerdist, Headland cleared up some difference between Anakin and the twins. Headland explained kind of that Anakin’s status as the chosen one is still uncontested, largely because the twins were “a preview” of sort of the chosen one and with that, they are far less powerful than Anakin.
It’s like when you’re doing an experiment and it’s the first round of it. They are maybe not the first, but one of the first experiments of this particular use of power.
So the twins are weaker than Anakin, for sure. They are going to fall short of what will eventually become the Chosen One. They will never achieve what that is, because in my mind, Aniseya could only do so much. She’s not powerful enough to create one person. The twins split, Aniseya’s power split, and therefore a lot of her philosophy is about the power of two. About the fact that they must stay together. They must stay together. The twins are stronger together if she keeps them together. And obviously there’s an analogy to this of the isolationist feeling, not just of the coven, but also of family. “If I can keep you safe, if I can keep you safe then you won’t get hurt. You won’t get hurt.
I have to admit that this is a good twist, if the twins did not split they would perhaps rival Anakin’s power, and it gives us a better insight into why Mother Aniseya worked so hard to keep the girls together and why she and Mother Korin were heartbroken when Osha wanted to join the Jedi order.
But, this also kind of reveals that Mother Korin is the Sith behind Qimir’s training. Qimir is looking for the power of two, that’s the twins, and the only person who could have known about their background is Mother Korin – a witch who conveniently survived that tragic night in the fortress.
