With the release of episode 8, ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has finally concluded its first season. It was quite a journey, marked by a lot of controversy, backlash, theories, and everything in between.

The final episode did little to tie Osha’s character arc with a satisfying end, and when Headland teased that the Jedi would be portrayed as the bad guys in the show, boy she was not lying.

Just like we’ve speculated, the show eventually did not break canon, since no one who saw Qimir declaring himself as Sith lived to tell the tale, except for Mae whose mind was completely wiped, her “most recent” memory being that from 16 years ago during the night the Witches of Brendok were wiped.

With the continuity now safe, the high points of the episode were definitely two significant cameos. They were brief and did little to advance the story, but they certainly presented a compelling potential continuation of the show. Let’s see why.

1. Darth Plagueis

Headland teased more than a week ago that there was one more Sith active in the show during the events of ‘The Acolyte.’ There were a lot of theories thrown around, some of them were way off base and some of them were correct. If you were on the side that hoped to see Darth Plagueis in the show, you should have a reason to be pretty elated.

On the planet where Qimir is currently stationed along with Osha, at one point in the show you can see a a shadowy male Muun figure, cloaked in black watching Qimir and Osha. This can be none other than Darth Plagueis the Wise – Palaptine’s Sith master.

We know that Palpatine will eventually kill Plagueis, but what happened in between, we have no idea as far as live-action goes, well I guess now we know that he was for some time connected to Qimir. What does this mean for the future of ‘The Acolyte’?

In her most recent interviews, Headland explained that she does have an idea on how to connect the events of ‘The Acolyte’ with Palaptine’s and Plagueis’ story, but that it would be complicated and messy. I have full faith that if we see a second season of the show, Headland will make good on her tease and start developing in that direction.

2. Master Yoda

Headland initially claimed that Yoda was not in the show, but it would be pretty awesome if they managed to score permission to use the character. The showrunner however brilliantly included the Jedi Grand Master by showing him from behind and not referring to him as Yoda at all, technically not breaking any rules.

Yoda’s appearance in the show was expected, considering that he was active during that era and it’s impossible that he would not be aware of references to a large incident such as what transpired on Brendok and Khofar, and the aftermath of it. So what does Yoda’s cameo mean for the future of ‘The Acolyte’?

The character won’t likely be included in a major role in season 2, but it certainly tells us that Vernestra needs some help in apprehending her former Padawan now turned Sith, Qimir.

Yoda may offer advice and guidance and prepare her for the best course of action to resolve this.

These two cameos were certainly pretty big and managed to redeem the show at least a little bit. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
