Yesterday, season 1 finale of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was released. The final episode was underwhelming in a lot of ways, with two major cameos honestly redeeming the whole episode. Both Darth Plagueis and Master Yoda have been shown, with Darth Plagueis having serious implications for the potential season 2 of the show.
We’ve recently analyzed that ‘The Acolyte’ is unlikely to get a second season if we go by numbers alone. The show is the second most expensive, only being surpassed by ‘Andor’ with $180M spent on its 8 episodes, but it also has second-lowest viewership numbers, once again surpassed only by ‘Andor.’ The difference between the two shows however is quality and critical reception, and this is why ‘Andor’ managed to secure a second season.
Despite this bleak outlook, Headland has teased that there are conversations related to the continuation of the show but no decision has been made. Headland said that ideally show would have 3 or 4 seasons, and she did claim that she has a good idea on how to connect the events of ‘The Acolyte’ with Darth Plagueis and Palpatine, but it’s “complicated and messy.”
Related to what we’ve seen, it’s obvious that Darth Plagueis, considering the nature of his experimentation, had something to do with the creation of Osha and Mae, and that’s supposed to tease what the second season should be about. The prospect of seeing live-action Darth Plagueis is interesting and exciting, and quite frankly, it’s such a shame we haven’t seen the High Republic sooner on screen, however as it turns out a large portion of the fanbase doesn’t want it – well, at least doesn’t want Headland’s version of it.
The reactions to the final episode have been mixed, and a substantial amount of fans don’t want Headland “butchering” the story.
Look at it on the bright side, if the showrunners take the legitimate feedback seriously, the show can only improve if it gets a second season. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
