‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ was a frequent target of both review-bombing and review-boosting. The show was highly controversial even before release due to some controversial statements made by the cast and crew, drawing attention to some aspects of the show that were in all honesty, missing.
Now we’ve analyzed the viewership of the show in great detail as the weeks went by. Some charts reported that ‘The Acolyte’ was losing viewers with each released episode, and some reported that ‘The Acolyte’ was the second-most popular show in the Star Wars franchise, based on some very dubious criteria, which we already commented on in our weekly piece.
Now Nielsen Charts are slowly releasing their info, and while far from being completely accurate, they are the best we have at the moment in determining the overall viewership of the show. The last set of data that Nielsen released showed ‘The Acolyte’ as the second-lowest watched Star Wars show, having viewership higher only than ‘Andor.’
The most recent set however indicates that ‘The Acolyte’ was nowhere near being seen in the top 10 most streamed shows, as the show started drastically losing viewership following Episode 3, and this data corresponds to what Luminate was showing us for several weeks in a row.
The data indicates that ‘The Acolyte’ is currently the least-watched Star Wars series on Disney+, with viewership dropping from 488 million minutes for its two-episode premiere to 370 million minutes by Episode 3, falling below that of ‘Andor.’
You can argue that this data is not the freshest, it only reflects the viewership that the show had following Episode 3. But, even before the most recent numbers are released we can draw some unreliable conclusions that the viewership of the show did in fact decrease based on Social Media chatter overall.
Sometime halfway through the show the amount of attention that ‘The Acolyte’ was getting decreased drastically, the only fans discussing the show were the ones praising it or the ones hating on it with passion. The average viewer was nowhere to be seen. But as I’ve already mentioned, this is just something that I’ve noticed and it shouldn’t be taken as a fact, it’s anecdotal evidence at best and we likely won’t know the true state of the viewership until the numbers are made available to the public.
