This year’s SDCC revealed plenty of interesting things for the future of the MCU. By far the most important part of the presentation was a revelation that Multiversal Saga is moving away from Kang. What was formerly known as ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ is now retitled ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ with Rober Downey Jr. set to portray Doctor Doom.

Next to nothin is known about the upcoming movie except for a release date (May 1, 2026) and the fact that it’s going to include Doom, Strange, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts.

There are plenty of speculations going around on what the movie might adapt but our biggest clue definitely came from Alex Perez’s June Discord Q&A.

According to Perez Secret Wars’ might end up being split into two parts because there are so many storylines that can’t fit into a single 2-hour film. There’s even talk about having more than one central antagonist.

Back in June Perez also claimed that Avengers 5 (Doomsday), would be a multiversal film with a more grounded story, but there were rumors about adapting elements from the ‘Avengers Assemble/Avengers: Forever’ event. This storyline involves a Multiversal Council of Mephisto variants, known as the Council of Red, and a team-up of Avengers to prevent the destruction of existence. Given Mephisto’s upcoming introduction to the MCU, this sounds like an interesting direction.

Perez also recommended that everyone curious about the future look up ‘Secret Wars’ comics and ‘Time Runs Out.’ Also, the ‘Avengers Assemble/Avengers: Forever’ event might be worth looking into. Beyond that, ‘Eternals Vol. 3’ is something to keep an eye on, despite Feige confirming that ‘Eternals 2’ is currently not being planned.

The news that Doom will be (as far as we know) antagonist for ‘Doomsday’ and the upcoming introduction of Mephisto might mean that there’s a connection there we’re not seeing yet.
