RDJ as Doctor Doom Sparks Interesting & Funny Speculations That the Whole Cast of Avengers Are Returning – As X-Men

This year’s SDCC was full of surprises the most notable one being that ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ is being retitled into ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

While the reactions to his return were mostly mixed, we have to admit that it would be interesting to see how MCU will play this off.

Fans have been calling for Iron Man to return to the MCU for a while now, but arguably, not like this. To say that the character has quite a long history in the franchise would be an understatement and it would be difficult to separate the face from the role and focus on Doctor Doom.

This caused fans to be hopeful (or rather afraid) that the former cast of the Avengers could also return, in different roles. After all, just days before it was revealed that RDJ would be back as Doom, we had the pleasure of seeing Chris Evans as the Human Torch variant in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ It’s clear that Marvel Studios is not above messing with our heads to play on nostalgia and fan service.

One fan took to social media to propose the potential X-Men casting that would ultimately see the Avengers cast taking on different roles in the MCU:
