‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is nearing its release, and while a lot of fans are not happy with the prospect of Sam Wilson being MCU’s new Captain America, Wilson’s past projects in particular are only adding fuel to the fire.
‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ has recently come under scrutiny after analyzing some of the dialogues that the character has spoken on screen.
‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ was a successful show with some pretty deep themes, but a good number of fans agree that some dialogues were “unfortunate’ and borderline silly.
A fan posted a YouTube video highlighting a moment in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ that puzzled many viewers. Near the end of the series, after Anthony Mackie’s character dons the Captain America suit, he confronts the decision-makers responsible for the circumstances that led to the formation of the Flag Smashers. When they refer to Karli Morgenthau and her group as “terrorists,” Sam Wilson quickly corrects them.
You have to stop calling them terrorists.
Karli is the leader of the Flag Smashers, a radical group that believes the world was better during the Blip, the period when half of the population was erased by Thanos. The Flag Smashers aim to restore the world’s state to what it was during that time, advocating for open borders and the redistribution of resources. Karli’s character is driven by a desire for equality and justice, though her methods become increasingly extreme and violent until she eventually does meet the legal definition of terrorism.
There’s also that “You gotta do better” line that fans simply can’t stop commenting. The main reason for criticism stems from the fact that Wilson actually never offers to help them “do better” or provides any realistic solution to the problem.
Some viewers noted that Anthony Mackie’s character criticized the senators for their terminology and laws but did not offer any concrete suggestions for how they could actually implement change.
Then there’s also the problem that the MCU seems to be inconsistent with its portrayal of morally grey villains. Plenty of fans compared Karli to the likes of Wanda and John Walker. labeling Wanda Maximoff and Karli Morgenthau as “misunderstood” while depicting John Walker as the villain lacks consistency. They believe Karli’s actions, which included killing innocents to “send a message,” fit the definition of terrorism.
Surprisingly the comments also yielded some solutions to these ridiculous lines that work better than what the MCU team of writers managed to write:
How I would’ve fixed the line: “Yes they’re terrorists, but we shouldn’t ignore why they became terrorists in the first place.”

What’s worse is that the show actually did a pretty decent job at presenting how they’d started as genuine activists but strayed into terrorism, but not acknowledging that they became terrorists who caused destruction is what ruined it. If Falcon had said,”Do you know why they became terrorists?” or “They didn’t start out as terrorists.”, then this scene would’ve been much better.

Sam: You gotta do better, senator. Senator: How do we do better? Sam: idk do better.

Weren’t they terrorizing because they were angry that they got booted out of other people’s homes who returned after the blip? Homes that never belonged to them in the first place? I’d be grateful I had somewhere to live, likely for free, for 5 years straight. The entitlement of the writers really shows through in their characters.
