During Disney+ Day 2021, it was revealed that an animated ‘Marvel Zombies’ TV series was in development for Disney+, with Zeb Wells serving as the writer and executive producer. The series continues the universe established in the ‘What If…?’ episode titled ‘What If… Zombies!?’.

The series has so far spent a lot of time in development, but occasionally we do get some news related to it, especially in recent times when Marvel Studios is slowly shifting toward animation in greater capacity.

During this year’s Marvel Animation D23 panel, footage of the show was revealed to the audiences, and it teased some really interesting things. Andrews and Winderbaum, ‘Zombies’ showrunners, shared a scene where the last survivors in San Francisco, including Shang-Chi and Katy, are rescued by Ten Rings agents. Wenwu intervenes, but when Shang-Chi is bitten by zombies, Wenwu sacrifices himself to prevent the infection’s spread.

Five years later, Shang-Chi leads a caravan across a desert, similar to “The Road Warrior,” but their journey is interrupted by Skrulls trying to steal their cattle. Shang-Chi and his team, possibly including Jimmy Woo, are prepared for battle.

This somewhat confirms that Shang-Chi will be among the main characters of the show, along with the previously teased Kamala Khan.

No release date has been given, but it’s been confirmed once more that the show will be rated TV-MA, which means that ‘Marvel Zombies’ is the first Marvel animated adult series.

The show will be 4 episodes long and it’s being described as an “event” rather than a mini-series or the like.
