When Ant-Man made his debut in the MCU, he quickly became a fan favorite, thanks largely to Paul Rudd’s fantastic portrayal. The first solo Ant-Man movie was a hit, and the sequel performed well too. Despite the third film being considered a flop due to poor writing, Ant-Man has managed to remain a beloved character among MCU fans.

Given his popularity, many fans enjoy revisiting some of Ant-Man’s most memorable moments in the MCU. Although the character often serves as comic relief, he’s had his share of notable scenes, and one theory in particular continues to draw attention.

Yes, it’s the theory about Ant-Man killing Thanos—the idea that Ant-Man could have shrunk down entered Thanos’ body, and then expanded to giant size, killing the villain from within. This theory has been a longstanding joke among fans, but Marvel actually addressed it… and somehow, that just made things even weirder.

If you’re concerned that you might have missed something in one of the main MCU films or TV shows, don’t worry. The official response to this theory wasn’t included in any of those projects. Instead, it appeared in Avengers: Quantum Encounter, a short film shown on Disney’s cruise ship, Disney Wish. The video has since leaked online, and you can watch it here:

This is one of the first things addressed in the video, so it’s fairly close to the beginning, and here is how the whole story goes:

Let me address the elephant in the room. I’ve heard a lot of chatter out there asking why I didn’t shrink down, go in, and uh…kill Thanos in a really creative way. First of all: gross. Secondly, it’s much more complicated than that. Allow me to explain…

At that point, Hope cuts him off, and the program shifts focus, leaving us without a clear answer as to why this plan was dismissed or considered so complex. So, while Marvel has acknowledged the theory, it seems they don’t have a solid explanation either, opting instead to tease us.
