Marvel Comics Set to Unveil a Powerful New Version of Thor

While the MCU is currently abuzz with Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Victor Von Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains, Marvel Comics is continuing to forge its own path, advancing the beloved storylines that fans cherish. The comics have always pushed boundaries further than the films, and an upcoming release is set to do just that.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the publisher’s iconic 1970s Giant-Size issues, Marvel Comics is rolling out new Giant-Size editions. Among these, the next release will spotlight the fan-favorite Asgardian god, Thor.

Giant-Size Thor #1, slated for release on August 21, 2024, promises to deliver an epic story, introducing a new and extremely menacing version of Thor—one unlike anything we’ve seen before. This development is both exciting and a little terrifying.

As mentioned, Giant-Size Thor #1 is set to be released in just a few days, and it appears the writers have embraced the title in a truly literal sense. The issue takes “giant-size” to heart in more ways than one.

In this storyline, readers will be transported to an alien planet where the help of a god is urgently needed. Enter Hercules, who comes to assist—but the threat he faces is none other than Thor himself. However, this isn’t the Thor you might expect. This version is a colossal, planet-destroying Thor with power rivaling that of Galactus, and it seems he might even surpass Galactus in sheer strength.

Hercules will confront this immense threat, but he may receive aid from the “original” Thor. The plot seems to reflect the aftermath of the “Ragnarok Arc,” a recent Marvel storyline in which Thor battled the Elder Gods, Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, and broke the cycle of Ragnarok.

While details on Giant-Size Thor’s origins are still unclear, he might be a remnant of Rune King Thor from the “Ragnarok Arc.” Regardless, Marvel has crafted an exciting narrative that fans are eagerly anticipating.
