The highly anticipated Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is poised to significantly impact the future of MCU television, marking a pivotal moment. Although Daredevil and other Marvel TV characters have recently joined the MCU, Marvel’s expanded access to characters now opens up numerous possibilities.

While we know quite a bit about the show and its characters, many details remain shrouded in mystery, particularly concerning new characters and their roles in the upcoming season of Daredevil.

One such character is Muse, a villain confirmed for the new season, though his exact significance remains unclear. Muse is known for being a particularly dark and disturbing adversary, and while his role in the season is still uncertain, his inclusion could suggest a potential R-rating for the show.

To understand why we believe Daredevil: Born Again might receive an R-rating due to Muse’s inclusion, let’s delve into who Muse is and the horrific acts he committed in the comics.

Introduced in 2016’s Daredevil (Vol. 5) #11, Muse is a disturbing artist with a penchant for the grotesque. His first major piece was a “blood mural” created from the blood of over 100 kidnapped individuals, whom he kept alive in a secret room while slowly draining their blood.

That’s just the beginning. Muse later kidnapped and murdered six Inhumans, using their bodies as macabre props in a display for the police. He also managed to gouge out Blindspot’s eyes during a confrontation, and, sensing Daredevil’s desire to stop him, broke his own fingers to prevent further artwork creation.

After escaping from prison, Muse continued his gruesome art, vandalizing landmarks with irremovable graffiti and killing policemen to use their bodies in his displays.

Muse’s gruesome end is too horrific to spoil, but his dark and disturbing nature suggests that adapting him for TV might lead to an R-rating. Toning down such a character would be a challenge, and frankly, we’d prefer not to see a sanitized version of Muse.
