Ryan Reynolds has been around Hollywood forever, even if audiences most recently associate him with the Deadpool role, a character he was seemingly born to play. His filmography is really extensive, and it’s not all comedies.

This is why fans gathered on Ranker to rate all his movies, so let’s see which ones made it to the top 10.

10. ‘Safe House’ (2012)

Reynolds stars with Denzel Washington in a one-man-army action thriller. The movie was released in 2012 and despite having a stellar cast it received mixed reviews from critics. The worst aspects of the movie definitely being story and action sequences.

9. ‘Just Friends’ (2005)

‘Justi Friends’ has a premise that Deadpool would make fun of, still, it’s a decent enough movie if you like feel-good romances and holiday movies. Ryan Reynolds stars with Amy Smart and Anna Faris and the critical consensus is that the movie isn’t as funny as we would expect from Reynolds.

8. ‘Waiting…’ (2005)

‘Waiting…’ is my own personal non-Deadpool favorite, so I’m surprised to see the movie so low on the list. It’s essentially a movie about nothing and it showcases how gross restaurants can be. The movie was panned by critics but over time managed to gain a cult following.

7. ‘Definitely, Maybe’ (2007)

‘Definitely, Maybe’ is yet another rom-com that puts a clever take on the genre. In the romantic comedy, Will Hayes, a Manhattan dad going through a divorce, recounts his romantic history with three women to his curious 10-year-old daughter, Maya, while she tries to guess which one became her mother.

Through his storytelling, both Will and Maya learn that love is complex and that it’s never too late to seek a happy ending. The movie got stellar reviews on release so it’s no wonder it made it top 10.

6. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ (2024)

You’re probably shocked that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is so low, but there’s a silver lining to all these positive reviews. Just beacuse the movie is the best MCU entry in recent times doesn’t mean that it’s overall a stellar movie.

There’s a lot of fan service in the movie and the plot is paper-thin with numerous plot holes. The action is impressive and fans liked the legacy characters but in the context of the larger MCU, it has little going for it. So no, this placement is not all that surprising.

5. ‘Free Guy’ (2021)

‘Free Guy’ is also a relatively recent release. In Free City, a massively multiplayer online game, NPC bank teller Guy begins to develop self-awareness after encountering Millie’s avatar, “MolotovGirl,” leading him to break free from his programming and become a global sensation.

As Guy uncovers the truth about his existence, Millie and her friend Keys work together to save the NPCs before the game’s sequel, Free City 2, erases them entirely.

In the end, Millie, Keys, and Guy manage to preserve their creation, launching a new game where Guy reveals he was designed as a love letter to Millie, leading to a real-life romance between Millie and Keys. The movie has stellar reviews so this placement is not all that surprising.

4. ‘The Proposal’ (2009)

In ‘The Proposal,’ Canadian editor Margaret Tate (Roberts) faces deportation and convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), to marry her to secure a green card, in exchange for making him an editor.

They travel to Andrew’s hometown in Alaska, where Margaret starts to fall for him while bonding with his loving family, but eventually confesses the truth about their sham engagement at their wedding. Realizing they truly love each other, Andrew chases after Margaret, professes his love, and they decide to get engaged for real, much to the delight of a determined immigration agent.

If the plot sounds generic, it’s beacuse it is, and I don’t personally agree that the movie deserves to be so high.

3. ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ (2017)

The movie stars Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in buddy-cop action comedy, but the movie was notably panned by critics pointing out that it heavily relies on overused action-comedy cliches and lacks originality.

Despite the strong chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds, the film’s formulaic plot and excessive reliance on banter failed to elevate it beyond a mediocre experience.

2. ‘Deadpool 2’ (2018)

‘Deadpool 2’ proved that sequels don’t have to be hard, as the movie is only slightly worse than the first installment in the franchise. Fans appreciated that the humor did not get stale in the sequel and some clever nods and cameos. The movie definitely deserves the number 2 spot.

1. ‘Deadpool’ (2016)

Can Deadpool Teleport & Time Travel? Merc With a Mouth Powers Explained

With the release of ‘Deadpool’ people realized that Reynolds was born to play the character. On release, the film’s unconventional tone, raunchy comedy, and willingness to subvert traditional superhero tropes made it stand out as a wildly entertaining and unique experience, even for those who typically don’t enjoy superhero movies.
