Is Martian Manhunter Joining the DCU? James Gunn’s Latest Tweet Sparks Speculation!

Warner Bros., the company that owns the rights to DC Comics characters, aimed to create its own version of the MCU after witnessing the massive success of Disney’s franchise, leading to the establishment of the DCEU. Despite its potential, star power, and some remarkable films, the DCEU was doomed by poor decisions and missteps along the way.

Eventually, Zack Snyder, the former head of the DCEU, was “fired,” and James Gunn was brought in to take over. When Gunn stepped in, the DCEU was in complete disarray, so he decided to start fresh with a new fictional universe—the DCU. The first phase, titled Gods and Monsters, has already begun.

Gunn is currently working on a Superman film set to release next year, which will be the central piece of this first phase. While much is known about the movie, it seems Gunn may still have some surprises up his sleeve if recent hints are more than just teases.

As mentioned, the main cast for the Superman movie is largely confirmed, and it appears that Martian Manhunter, also known as J’onn J’onzz, will not be featured in this film. While it’s expected that the character might make an appearance in the future, he’s not slated to be part of the Superman movie. Or could he be? Check out the details below:

And then this happened. If you’re unfamiliar with it, Chocos is DC’s version of Oreo cookies, created to sidestep any copyright issues with the Oreo brand. They’re essentially the same as Oreos but under a different name. So, why are they significant, and how do they relate to Martian Manhunter?

J’onn J’onzz, aka Martian Manhunter, is famously known for his “addiction” to Chocos—much like Shazam!—and has even been depicted experiencing withdrawal symptoms when he goes without them for a while. This connection has led many fans to speculate that James Gunn might be hinting at a Martian Manhunter appearance in an upcoming project, possibly in Superman or even Peacemaker Season 2.

As of now, there’s been no official casting announcement for the character, so Gunn could either be cleverly keeping it under wraps or simply teasing fans. Regardless, Chocos play a notable role in DC lore, so we might see them featured in upcoming projects, with or without Martian Manhunter.
