Star Wars franchise is one of the most popular sci-fi franchises of all time. With a long history of live-action, book, and animated media, it has thousands of characters. However, not all characters were created equal. In the difficult task of determining who the best character is, we need the opinion of as many people as possible, and this is where Ranker comes in.

Ranker gathered over 1 million votes to determine the best character, and although the ultimate list contains hundreds of names, we decided to summarize it as a neat top 10 list, let’s see who the best Star Wars character is.

10. Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka is a relatively new character when compared to most of this list. She was introduced during the Clone Wars as Anakin’s Padawan and due to her significant connection to some of the most legendary faces, she rose in fame. Ahsoka has skills, and a good story, which is why her popularity ultimately produced a standalone Disney+ show.

9. Din Djarin – The Mandalorian

Like Ahsoka Tano, Din is a new character created for the ‘The Mandalorian’ show, and the character can owe most of its popularity to Pascal’s brilliant portrayal. Din Djarin is a Mandalorian bounty hunter who happens upon Baby Grogu and makes it his life mission to protect it – and yes Baby Grogu is the other half of the character’s massive popularity.

8. Leia Organa

Leia is portrayed as a fearless leader and a key figure in the Rebel Alliance’s fight against the Galactic Empire. Unlike many female characters in science fiction at the time of her debut, Leia is multi-dimensional. She is both a princess and a warrior, showing strength, intelligence, and vulnerability. This fully explains why she is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise.

Chewbacca is at this point part of popular culture that even non-fans understand. Chewbacca’s towering height, shaggy fur, and unique vocalizations make him visually and audibly distinctive, and it’s quite frankly hard to forget about him. The species as a whole is fascinating although Chewbacca is their most notable member.

6. R2-D2

R2-D2, despite being a droid, is instantly recognizable, and much of his popularity is owed to the fact that he played a critical role in numerous key events. R2-D2’s unwavering loyalty to his friends and his ability to endure countless adventures and challenges make him a beloved and reliable character.

Han begins as a cynical smuggler primarily interested in self-preservation and profit. However, his character arc transforms him into a hero who fights for the greater good. This is one of the most common tropes in fiction in general but somehow, Harrison’s Ford portrayal made him stand out, and he is still one of the characters you first think of when someone mentions Star Wars.

4. Luke Skywalker

Luke represents hope, resilience, and the triumph of good over evil. His unwavering commitment to justice, and his belief in the power of redemption. He is everything that is good, and this is why, most people at one point in their lives simply wanted to be him. There is no Star Wars without Luke Skywalker.

3. Yoda

Yoda is a small, green, wizened creature of an unknown race that happens to talk in a weird way and just happens to be the most powerful Jedi in the Galaxy…what’s not to love about him? Yoda’s role as a mentor and guide to characters like Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi establishes him as a central figure in the Jedi Order and places him quite high on this list.

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Wait scratch that, we didn’t want to be Luke Skywalker, all of us wanted to be Obi-Wan Kenobi! Obi-Wan is known for his strong moral compass, wisdom, and calm demeanor. involved in some of the most memorable lightsaber duels in the Star Wars films. His battles with Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and Darth Vader are incredibly badass. Portrayed with a mix of seriousness and warmth, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the Jedi everyone aspires to be!

1. Darth Vader

As if anyone else could claim the number 1 spot… Darth Vader is fiction’s most iconic villain. Everything about the character is instantly recognizable. He is also one of fiction’s most complicated villains, and the more his story expands the more we realize how layered he actually is. There’s not a single person in this world that doesn’t recognize him!
