‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the most recent Star Wars installment. The show has crashed and burned after 8 episodes being canceled by Disney. Not a single person was surprised by this turn of events. The show was way too expensive taking into account an obvious lack of quality, it was also filled with logical inconsistencies, poor writing, poor acting, and overall bad pacing.

However, the aspect that Disney most cares about, the viewers, also failed to deliver as industry insiders reveal, it was canceled due to a low viewership and not due to overall hateful backlash online.

No one can deny that ‘The Acolyte’ is overall a very subpar show, but you also can’t deny that it was a target of some hateful comments based on nothing but pure discrimination and hatred. The most recent example in which “fans” review-bomb the show’s merch is just one more piece of evidence to stack against toxic fans.

The cast and crew also found themselves as a target for discrimination online, most notably Amandla Stenberg, who portrayed the main characters twins Osha and Mae. Stenberg openly talked about harassment, before and after the show was canned, she also fired back against her haters with a self-written and self-published song a few weeks back.

Other stars in the industry offered her support, notably Boyega who also experienced discrimination, but not by fans, by Disney itself. Now one more star who really knows what it’s like to be harassed by “fans” reached out to Stenberg via social media.

We’re talking about Ahmed Best, who most of you likely know as the man behind Jar Jar Binks, the most hated Star Wars character prior to the release of ‘The Acolyte.’

Best knows what he is talking about, as his harassment wasn’t widely reported on as in Stenberg’s case. Jar Jar was intended as comic relief, but his slapstick humor and clumsy antics often felt out of place or overdone to some fans, leading to frustration rather than amusement.

Ahmed Best’s performance as Jar Jar, including his voice and mannerisms, didn’t resonate well with many fans, further fueling negative reactions. The fans were sick of the character, and being unable to separate the artist from the art the campaign of hatred began.

Best opened up about his harassment in the past, stating that at one point he even contemplated suicide due to the overwhelming hatred he received. So if anyone knows what it feels like to be targeted by “bad apples” of fans it’s him.
