There’s Zero Chance ‘Spider-Man 4’ Is Going to Be a “Street-Level” Story & There’s an Obvious Reason for That

‘Spider-Man 4’ is the next installment in Spider-Man’s movie series in the MCU. The movie was confirmed to be in development last year and not much is known except for the fact that both Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their roles.

According to industry insiders, even before the movie entered official development there’s been talk that the movie would be either a multiversal story or a street-level story.

The street-level story would bring Spider-Man up against Kingpin, with Daredevil possibly making an appearance, and with ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ being the next big thing for Disney+ fans welcomed that idea.

Now the most recent rumors however paint a different picture. It’s been said that Kingpin has been written out and the movie is back on track to being a Multiversal story. This change was reportedly brought on by the inclusion of Doctor Doom in the MCU following sudden changes that were kickstarted by Majors’ firing.

This disappointed a lot of fans, but, ultimately the decision makes sense, and once again, this was never confirmed via official means it’s just something that was often brought up by scoopers, leakers, and sources from within the studio.

Spider-Man already has a multiverse theme going on. Multiverse was hinted at back in ‘Far From Home’ through Mysterio who turned out to be a scam, before going full in into the Multiverse with No Way Home’ and the alternative Spider-Man variants.

‘No Way Home’ was also one of the most profitable movies in the MCU franchise the movie earned $814.9 million in the United States and Canada, and $1.112 billion internationally, for a total worldwide gross of $1.927 billion. The overall fan reception was astoundingly good, so there’s no reason not to continue with the story and the elements of fan service.

Now the other reason why ‘Spider-Man 4’ won’t be a street-level story comes from the simple fact of when the movie will be released. It’s expected that it’s going to release between ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ and both movies are expected to be the finale of the Multiverse featuring a lot of superheroes, a lot of variants, and a lot of time travel and reality breaking, at least if ‘Time Runs Out’ ends up being adapted as we suspect it will be.

Now it’s clear that the studio likely won’t shoehorn a street-level story in the middle of the multiversal grand finale, I mean you can, but if you want to keep the cohesion of the story, you won’t.

This however disappointed a lot of fans. Fans are eager to get a more down-to-earth Spider-Man story and with the way ‘No Way Home’ ended, fans were hoping to see Peter Parker broke, lonely, and struggling. They feel the multiverse concept has been overused and lacks stakes, making the stories less meaningful. Some also believe that revisiting the multiverse too soon after ‘No Way Home’ might dilute its impact and appeal. Overall, there is a desire for simpler, character-driven stories rather than complex, multi-dimensional plots.

Unfortunately, if the rumors are correct that won’t happen, at least not yet. What do you think? Do you prefer street-level or multiversal? Let us know in the comments below!
