Recently, Ranker conducted a major survey to determine the best Spider-Man movies. The list features 11 films, and in this report, we’ll present the full ranking along with our own insights and commentary to enrich your experience. Given the significance of this list, we’re excited to share the results with you. We’ll count down from the 11th-ranked movie to the top spot. Enjoy the countdown!

11. Spider-Man (1977)

The 1977 made-for-TV Spider-Man movie is one that many of you might not have seen or even heard of. While it was a respectable effort for its time, it ultimately fell short in capturing the essence of the character. Given that it was the late 1970s and superhero films were not yet a major focus, it’s understandable why this movie ended up in last place.

10. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

This ranking seems a bit unfair, as Garfield’s Spider-Man films weren’t all that bad. While they did borrow heavily from Raimi’s movies, they had their own merits, and Garfield brought a unique charisma to the role. We would personally place these films ahead of the first two Holland movies and Raimi’s final installment. While we’re not claiming they are the best, we definitely disagree with their current placement.

9. Spider-Man 3

Raimi’s final film was a bit of a mess. While it wasn’t entirely dreadful, it struggled as a standalone movie and paled in comparison to the first two films, especially the second one. The movie was filled with cringe-worthy moments and poorly executed scenes, which contributed to its shortcomings and led to the end of the franchise. Personally, we’d place this one in tenth place.

8. The Amazing Spider-Man

Much of what we’ve said about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 applies to this film as well. The Amazing Spider-Man is a decent movie with some questionable choices, but it doesn’t deserve all the criticism it receives. At worst, it’s a solid or okay superhero film, not something terrible or deserving of constant negativity, despite the frequent criticism Garfield’s two movies face.

7. Spider-Man: Far From Home

Regardless of your opinion on Holland as Spider-Man and his three MCU movies, they fall short in terms of quality. Aimed primarily at teenagers, these films, despite having convincing villains like Mysterio who is a standout, lack strong overall storylines and character development. They’re not as exceptional as Marvel might lead you to believe. Personally, we’d place these movies in eighth place.

6. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

We’re genuinely surprised to see the animated movies ranked this “low” because they are truly outstanding. While the second movie might seem a bit confusing with all its variants and its unfinished state, it remains a fantastic film and a visual marvel. We would confidently place it in the top five, as it is definitely superior to Holland’s Spider-Man movies.

5. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Honestly, this is the weakest of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films, and feels like it was designed specifically for kids, despite trying to appeal to a broader audience. While Michael Keaton delivered an impressive performance as the villain, the movie itself didn’t offer much beyond that. We’d place this film in ninth place, far from the top five.

4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

In our view, this film was a spectacular achievement that truly deserves second place. It was a visual marvel with a compelling story, outstanding character development, and a deep emotional impact, which is why it resonates so strongly with audiences. Winning an Oscar further underscores its excellence, making it one of the greatest Spider-Man movies of all time.

3. Spider-Man (2002)

Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man film was remarkable not only as a standalone movie but also as a significant piece of cinematic history. Although it wasn’t the first successful superhero film, it set a high standard by showcasing the potential of CGI in 2002, which thrilled fans. It demonstrated that dazzling effects could coexist with a strong narrative, and for these reasons, we agree with its placement on the list.

2. Spider-Man: No Way Home

While this movie wasn’t perfect, it stands out as the best of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films, which is why we’d place it at fourth. The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, along with some classic villains, provided a major boost, but the film still struggled with a disjointed narrative that leaned heavily on symbolism rather than a cohesive story. Despite its flaws, it deserves a spot in the top five.

1. Spider-Man 2

We would have been quite disappointed if this movie hadn’t earned the top spot. Sam Raimi’s second Spider-Man film is a prime example of how to create an exceptional comic book movie and rightfully stands alongside other greats like Burton’s Batman films, Donner’s Superman films, and Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It featured emotional depth, a compelling storyline, excellent character development, and an unforgettable Doc Ock, brilliantly portrayed by Alfred Molina. These elements combined make it the best of the bunch.
