New Theory Suggests Thor Saved Captain America’s Life by Giving Him Mjolnir

‘Avengers: Endgame’ premiered some time ago, yet it remains one of the most celebrated and influential comic book movies ever. The film was a game-changer for Marvel and the MCU, marking the end of an era and reshaping the universe’s narrative, with both its highs and lows.

Even though the movie has been thoroughly analyzed, fans still enjoy revisiting this superhero epic, discussing intriguing theories about specific scenes and character dynamics. This ongoing fascination inspired this report, where we’ll explore a significant moment from the film.

The moment in question is when Captain America wields Thor’s weapons, Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. A fan theory suggests that Thor actually saved Cap’s life by taking Stormbreaker away from him and giving him Mjolnir to use.

The theory revolves around the final battle against Thanos, where Captain America (Steve Rogers) proves himself worthy of wielding Thor’s weapons—a truly epic and pivotal moment in the story, especially considering earlier MCU events.

As you may recall, only those deemed worthy can wield these weapons, making this a significant milestone for any character. With that in mind, you’ll likely enjoy revisiting this iconic scene:

However, you might also recall that at one point, Captain America briefly wielded Stormbreaker, prompting Thor to quickly intervene and take it back, jokingly saying Cap could have “the little one.” While this seemed like a humorous moment between the two, a theory from FandomWire suggests that Thor’s actions actually saved Captain America’s life.

Apart from Mjolnir, Chris Evans‘ Cap also manages to use the Stormbreaker, but Thor is quick to take it away from him. As per one theory, it might be because even though Cap is worthy of using both weapons, he cannot use the Stormbreaker for long since it is so powerful that it can possibly make him descend into madness, as per what Thor tells the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War.

Namely, in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ Thor said to Guardians of the Galaxy:

You simply lack the strength to wield them. Your bodies would crumple as your minds collapsed into madness.

This theory connects to a scene where Thor explains to Peter that not everyone can wield every weapon, which is why they each have different ones. Thor, being one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, can handle Stormbreaker, but Captain America might have quickly been overwhelmed by its power, potentially descending into madness.

It’s akin to how Thanos survived using the Infinity Gauntlet while Tony Stark did not, aligning with established MCU lore. So, by taking Stormbreaker away, Thor may have actually saved Cap’s life — a compelling theory if you ask us.
