James Gunn Reveals Potential Title for Batman & Superman Team-Up Movie

More than a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the slate of upcoming projects for their newly revamped DCU – a successor cinematic universe to the DCEU. We have loads to look forward to both when it comes to movies and live-action TV shows and animated projects.

DCU will officially commence with the release of ‘Creature Commandos’ but the live-action portion will start next year with the release of ‘Superman’ – something that both Gunn and Safran consider the true start of the DCU.

When it comes to Superman and his supporting characters, the cast has pretty much been filled, we’re still waiting for the news regarding Batman & Wonder Woman casting. We shouldn’t expect any Avengers-type crossover or team-up movies anytime soon but James Gunn recently revealed the potential title of Batman/Superman team-up movie.

Gunn shared a Labor Day dedicated post to his private Instagram account and was asked by a fan: “Hi Mr Gunn, in the hypothetical case that a movie starring only Superman and Batman (teaming) came out, what would you call it? Superman and Batman or Batman and Superman?😉🧜‍♂️

Gunn answered that it would be called ‘World’s Finest.’

Another DC fan followed up on Gunn’s statement about the ‘World’s Finest’ title, asking if it was a confirmed part of the DCU slate. Gunn did not respond to that question.

As I’ve mentioned before, DCU doesn’t have its Batman yet, as far as we know, although interesting names have been put forward. We don’t have to anticipate a team-up movie anytime soon since Gunn will likely want to establish Batman before putting him on-screen with Superman.

As far as the title goes, the term ‘World’s Finest’ is often associated with Batman and Superman back when DC Comics first published a series featuring both heroes in 1941. Originally titled ‘World’s Best Comics,’ it was renamed ‘World’s Finest Comics’ with its second issue and began as a super-sized quarterly anthology featuring stories about Batman, Superman, Robin, and other DC heroes. In the 1950s, the series was shortened to a regular comic focusing primarily on Batman and Superman, establishing the format familiar to most DC fans today.
