Thor Still Doesn’t Know Loki Is Kinda Alive – But That Could Change in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

With the release of ‘Loki’ season 2, Loki became one of the most important characters in the MCU. After Loki figured out what keeps the fabric of his reality together, he also realized that he had to make the ultimate sacrifice and replace He Who Remains on his throne.

The Temporal Loom is no more, realities are no longer being deleted after straying too far from the template, and Loki is seemingly holding everything together via what appears to be Yggdrasil.

So far Loki wasn’t referenced in projects that were released after ‘Loki’ season 2, and Thor has no idea that his brother – well, a variant of his brother is alive. The two brothers had quite a complicated relationship in the MCU, they were enemies, allies, and everything in between as Loki constantly schemed behind his back.

Still, when Loki was killed in ‘Endgame’ at the hands of Thanos attempting to buy some time for Thor and the Avengers, Thor mourned for him greatly. The ‘Loki’ series eventually provided the character with a well-rounded redemption arc and fans can’t wait for Thor to “meet” this new and improved variant of Loki.

While we have no idea when Loki will next appear, it’s been rumored that ‘Thor 5’ is in development and that it’s going to have much darker themes than ‘Love and Thunder.’ Now the next probable project for the re-unification of two brothers in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

The title alone tells us that some kind of cataclysmic event will take place, as it’s quite possible that incursions will continue to tear apart the Sacred Timeline until something is done. It’s quite possible that while attempting to fix the Incursions the Avengers – and by extension Thor will discover that the time is no longer under the command of He Who Remains but rather being held together by Loki.

The emotional reunion between the two brothers might be what starts the next phase of Thor’s character development. Most importantly, the reunion is what is needed to fully close Loki’s redemption arc and to prove to his brother once and for all that he is capable of more than chaos.

The ‘Loki’ showrunners stated in October of last year that Loki was always meant to rejoin Thor to complete his development:

That’s the hope. I don’t want to — yeah. I think the the sun shining on Loki and Thor once again has always been the priority of the story we’re telling. But for that meeting to really be fulfilling, we have to get Loki to a certain place emotionally. I think that’s been the goal of these two seasons.
