Agatha All Along is the latest MCU series to spin off from the hit show WandaVision. After numerous title changes, it’s surprising that this one has stuck until the premiere. Nevertheless, the series debuted on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, with two episodes, and the remaining seven will be released weekly until November 6, wrapping up the season.

Early reviews hinted at a fun and engaging experience. While Agatha All Along is certainly intriguing, it hasn’t been hailed as the MCU’s best show, with critics generally expressing disappointment. However, the fan response has been more positive, with audience ratings showing strong support despite the critical reviews.

Agatha All Along premiered on September 18, 2024, with two episodes, and the initial reactions have deviated from early reviews. Instead of a strong start, the show saw a rapid decline in ratings before leveling off at about 70% positive reviews. Currently, it holds a 69% rating from critics, making it one of the lowest-rated MCU shows in this regard. Here are some of the reactions:

The project mostly avoids feeling like one of those Marvel tales that exists solely to set up other Marvel tales. Unfortunately, it also stops short of feeling like a series that needs to exist for its own sake.

Angie Han, The Hollywood Reporter

It’s the rare Marvel project that feels justified not by its role in some yearslong master plan, but its own creative potential. Even in her diminished state, Agatha is still capable of some enchantment.

Alison Herman, Variety

Agatha All Along slogs down its chosen path, with the coven squabbling and bonding through a series of frenetic but unexciting trials. The virtues of the theme of female empowerment are outweighed by the tired, generic story lines.

Mike Hale, New York Times

Agatha All Along may take its title from a flashback, but everything else about the show (so far) suggests that there’s more than enough to mine when all you’ve got is all Agatha, all the time.

David Fear, Rolling Stone

It’s so enjoyably executed that, as a member of the possibly-pandered-to demographic, I was too entertained to be offended.

Judy Berman TIME

Meanwhile, the series boasts a solid 75% audience rating, suggesting that fans have embraced its quirky elements and are overlooking the series’ flaws. Though the start has been rocky, it will be interesting to see how the show evolves as more episodes are released.
