The MCU Let Hulk Down by Making Him Too Child-Friendly—And His Low Kill Count Proves It
Superheroes and comic book characters often cause significant destruction during their battles. While this damage is usually unintentional for superheroes, harm, and casualties are inevitable. In some cases, though, heroes must deliberately take lives to defeat their enemies.
Although heroes like Batman and Superman sometimes follow a “no-kill” rule, this is more of an exception than the norm. Superheroes, whether facing monsters, aliens, or other foes, generally don’t shy away from eliminating their enemies.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the kill count of an iconic comic book character—specifically, his MCU version. We’re talking about Hulk, including both Norton’s and Ruffalo’s portrayals. You’ll soon understand why making the Hulk child-friendly didn’t do him justice, as his kill count doesn’t align with that softened image.
The information we’re sharing comes from an IMDb list created by user Creedswede, who dedicated time to tracking the kill count of both major and minor MCU characters, along with several keynotes. According to his findings, Hulk’s kill count is as follows:
- The Incredible Hulk – 25
- The Avengers – 29
- Avengers: Age of Ultron – 13
- Thor: Ragnarok – 2
- Avengers: Infinity War – 13
- Avengers: Endgame – 6
- Total kills: 88+
He also appeared in Iron Man 3, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as in Loki, WandaVision, and She-Hulk. However, he didn’t accumulate any kills in those projects, as most of his appearances were cameos or used archive footage.
Regarding the numbers listed, the first film—The Incredible Hulk—features Edward Norton’s version of the character (Norton only appeared in that film), while the subsequent counts reflect Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who took over the role after the first movie.
Though this isn’t the highest kill count in the MCU, it’s still impressive, as the Hulk has officially killed more foes than most supervillains and certainly more than many superheroes.
The Hulk is expected to return in future projects, so his kill count will likely increase, and we’ll update the list as new information comes in. Even now, these numbers indicate that the MCU’s choice to portray the Hulk as a child-friendly character was misguided in terms of both character development and the facts.
These figures have been updated as of Deadpool & Wolverine, where the Hulk made a cameo, so we can consider them accurate.
