Initially announced in April 2023, the ‘New Jedi Order’ marks Star Wars’ return to theaters since 2019’s ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.

An untitled Star Wars movie is scheduled for May 22, 2026, a date Lucasfilm hadn’t publicly confirmed until earlier this year when they announced ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, a sequel to the popular Disney+ series, with filming set to start soon.

However, the latest reports paint a different picture altogether, as the movie is not only far from entering production, it’s currently on hold following undisclosed development difficulties.

The rumors come from Daniel Richtman, a reputable industry insider and leaker who has a pretty decent track record all things taken into account. The information was shared on his paid Patreon account and the specific details were not shared, but as far as things stand now, the movie is not expected to enter production until 2025.

This is not the first piece of news that paints the ‘New Jedi Order’ in a bad light. Several months ago Bespit Bulletin published a report that echoed similar concerns. The report claimed that the movie would not begin filming this year, but the explanations ranged everywhere from the WGA strike to scripting issues.

There’s talk that Lucasfilm might look for a new writer for the project, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Steven Knight is leaving. They could be seeking extra help to assist Knight with the script or refine it. Knight is expected to stay involved as the project progresses.

Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film follows Rey’s journey to rebuild the Jedi Order. Originally, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were supposed to write it, but Steven Knight has taken over. The story is set 15 years after ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ exploring a galaxy in disarray after the war and the fall of the First Order. Kathleen Kennedy mentioned that Rey is working to fulfill her promise to Luke by rebuilding the Jedi Order using ancient texts.

Recently, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy stated that she is already facing criticism for the movie, but she plans to ignore the negative feedback until she finishes.
