‘Avengers’ Actor Shares the True Reason Thanos Didn’t Meet Lady Death in ‘Infinity War’
Avengers: Infinity War premiered quite some time ago but remains one of the most acclaimed and popular comic book films ever.
While it stood out as a significant movie on its own, it also set the stage for Endgame, which transformed the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marked the end of an era, leading to both high points and challenges in the narrative that followed.
Though the film delivered a lot, some scenes were left out of the final version—either as deleted extras or never filmed at all.
Recently, we learned that an epic idea was pitched to the directors, but the Russo Brothers ultimately decided against it, leaving fans without an incredible moment that could have altered the MCU’s landscape.
This information came from actor Ross Marquand, who portrayed Red Skull in Infinity War, during the Edmonton Expo. He confirmed that even though the character in question didn’t make it into the final cut, a nod to that idea can still be seen on screen.
As you may recall, in Infinity War, Thanos journeys to the realm of the dead as part of his mission to collect all the Infinity Stones.
There, he encounters Red Skull, portrayed by Ross Marquand instead of Hugo Weaving. In this film, Red Skull serves as a guide for visitors to the realm, marking an interesting shift from his portrayal in the Captain America movie.
However, it turns out that Red Skull was not the initial choice for this role. Someone proposed a completely different character to appear instead, and knowing who it was, we can’t help but feel it would have made more sense and are disappointed it didn’t come to fruition. Agents of Fandom is a reliable fansite, and this information comes straight from Ross Marquand, the actor involved. He revealed that there was a pitch for Lady Death to be the character Thanos encounters in the realm of the dead, but the directors decided against it, thinking it was too late to introduce her into the MCU since so much time had passed.
While we may disagree with this choice, it likely stems from Lady Death’s significance as a character; the MCU didn’t want to reduce her to just a cameo in a major film.
That said, Red Skull’s cloak in the movie serves as a nod to Lady Death, showing that the Russo Brothers found a way to acknowledge her character despite her absence.
