‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is easily one of the most exciting upcoming DCU projects. The movie will be based on a comic by Tom King. The limited series ran from 2021 to 2022 and painted Supergirl in a much darker light than we’re used to seeing her in.
During the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Supergirl was stuck on a piece of the planet that drifted away. She grew up in a harsh environment with a lot of mental trauma to unpack, considering that she has seen everyone she loves die.
Supergirl casting was announced several months ago, ‘House of the Dragon’ star Milly Alcock will be portraying Kara Zor-El and now the movie apparently has an actor attached to the villain.
According to Deadline Matthias Schoenaerts will be portraying Krem of the Yellow Hill. Krem of the Yellow Hill is also the main antagonist of the limited series on which the movie will be based on.
In the series, Krem comes from a place called the Yellow Hills, but much of his backstory is shrouded in mystery. His homeland is mentioned, but the focus is more on his actions and crimes than on any significant lore or history tied to the Yellow Hills themselves.
At one point, Krem allies himself with the Kings of the Citadel, a powerful group with a dark agenda. This alliance grants him access to advanced weapons, including Kryptonite, which he uses to attack Supergirl during the series. He is responsible for the death of Supergirl’s father and is a major motivator for her actions.
Matthias Schoenaerts is known to portray rugged and complex characters, some of his most notable roles include ‘Rust and Bone,’ ‘Far from the Madding Crowd,’ and ‘The Danish Girl.’
What’s interesting is that Matthias Schoenaerts was almost DCEU’s Batman, as Snyder revealed several years ago on Happy Sad Confused Podcast:
I was talking to [Schoenaerts] a lot about it. He never got in the suit, but I did do a bunch of mock-ups of him, because Ben was on the fence. And I don’t blame him. Everyone should be on the fence when you’re asked, ‘Do you want to play Batman?’”
Even though we never got the opportunity to see Schoenaerts as The Dark Knight, luckily he got the opportunity to play someone with the potential to be extremely important for the future of the DCU!
