Beau DeMayo Reacts to Marvel Scrapping His Original Onslaught and Apocalypse Plans: “Marvel does not care about fans”

Despite various challenges and alterations to the series canon, X-Men ’97 emerged as a major success for Marvel. While numerous factors contributed to its popularity, we won’t delve into each one here.

For those who had watched the original series, the engaging storyline and animation style that closely mirrored the original evoked a strong sense of nostalgia.

This success undoubtedly influenced Disney’s decision to renew the show. However, as you may know, a different creative team will be behind this new season.

The original showrunner and creator of the revival, Beau DeMayo, was dismissed—reportedly due to allegations of sexual misconduct—and has since been embroiled in a public dispute with Disney.

We recently covered how DeMayo’s original plans for the series, which included Onslaught and Apocalypse, were scrapped by Disney. In response, he took to social media to accuse Marvel of neglecting its fans, and many fans seem to agree with his sentiments.

Summarizing this situation is challenging, but we’ll give it our best shot. Beau DeMayo successfully revived the beloved original X-Men animated series from the late 1990s.

While fans embraced the show, DeMayo was dismissed for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior even before the revival aired. Since then, he has been engaged in a feud with Disney, and recently it was announced that Disney has completely scrapped his plans for the series moving forward.

This is particularly surprising given that DeMayo had fully completed Season 2 and was nearing the finish of Season 3. In a detailed Twitter exchange with fans, DeMayo shared numerous insights, which we have reported on, but he also took the opportunity to accuse Marvel of disregarding its fanbase.

While there are typically two sides to every story, some fans are indeed siding with DeMayo on this issue:
