All films in the ‘Venom’ franchise are set within the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Although they feature characters from Marvel comics, they are not part of the MCU due to the complex rights situation surrounding Spider-Man between Sony and Disney/Marvel.

Knull is rumored to be the catalyst for the SSU-MCU merger and is also speculated to be the villain in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’
