If we had to choose, option three seems like the best fit, as Captain Marvel is a key character. However, if Marvel is focusing on newer superheroes, she might not have much room moving forward, making option four a solid alternative as well. Option one doesn’t seem logical, and while option two is practical, it doesn’t offer much long-term value.

The MCU is probably heading towards a reboot of some sorts. The whole multiverse interconnection lends to a nice way to tie that up. Marvel probably wants to also introduce some of its properties that it did not have the movie rights to earlier.
