The standalone sequel to the acclaimed Doctor Strange—which introduced the MCU’s mystical superhero—was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film saw Strange take on Wanda Maximoff, now fully transformed into the Scarlet Witch.
While the movie was praised by critics, its underwhelming plot has led to it being considered one of the weaker entries in the MCU.
Despite that, Doctor Strange remains one of the MCU’s most important characters and is expected to play a larger role as the Multiverse Saga unfolds. Especially with the anticipated arrival of Doctor Doom. But what about a third solo film?
Rumors about a third Doctor Strange movie have been circulating for a while, with fans agreeing that it’s both needed and inevitable. While Benedict Cumberbatch has recently admitted he’s unsure about the film’s status, a trusted Hollywood insider, known as The InSneider, claims a deal is close to being finalized. Keep reading for more details!
A few months ago, Benedict Cumberbatch was asked about the chances of Doctor Strange 3 happening, and he had this to say:
“Who knows! We will see. We will find out. I’m not sure where he’s been and what he’s been up to and who with, but yeah, I know as little as you.”
Naturally, this response was discouraging, leaving fans worried about the movie’s future. Sure, let’s be real—Multiverse of Madness wasn’t a perfect film. But it wasn’t that bad—certainly not at a “cancel the whole series” level. The movie had potential, and with a stronger script, Doctor Strange definitely deserves a third film. He’s earned it.
Since then, there haven’t been any major updates or rumors. However, industry insider The InSneider recently brought some exciting news. According to him, Doctor Strange 3 is still happening, and Marvel is close to finalizing a deal with Sam Raimi to return as director.
Raimi is a beloved figure in the comic book movie world, so fans will be thrilled to hear he’s potentially coming back. With a better screenplay, Raimi could truly do the character justice this time around. This rumor is exciting, and we hope official confirmation comes soon because the suspense is killing us!
