‘The Penguin’ Episode 3 Hints at the Possible Arrival of Poison Ivy in ‘The Batman’ Universe

‘The Penguin’ just released episode 3, and by the end of the episode, the stakes have never been higher. As you probably know by now, before he was killed by Oz, Alberto Falcone planned to push a new drug to the streets of Gotham.

Only two people knew about his plan, Sofia Falcone and Oz, and now both of them are working together (or at least worked together) to see this plan come to fruition.

Sofia’s experience in the Arkham Asylum however seemed to be the inspiration behind Alberto’s plan as the new drug he worked on developing seems to be something she was given during her stay there.

Sofia gave Oz the tour of the label where “Bliss” was being developed. The drug is derived from the basidiospore of the Bleeding Tooth mushroom. Basidiospore is a reproductive spore in some types of mushrooms. In this case, those spores cause euphoric effects that are capable of numbing even the experience of staying in Arkham Asylum.

The drug proved to be successful really fast and Oz and Sofia managed to secure the deal with Triads. The future of that deal and the new drug now hangs in the balance however as we are unsure whether Sofia will be alive in future episodes.

But, how does this all connect to Poison Ivy? It’s clear that Sofia first learned about the drug during her stay at Arkham Asylum, hell she even took it. But she had to have someone in there who explained the mechanics of that drug to her.

We know that Sofia is working with Trey Bloom (more on that later) currently, but it’s unlikely that he was the one who told her where the drug actually comes from.

Poison Ivy is one of the most popular villains in DC comics. She is a former botanist and expert in plant biology who becomes a criminal after being exposed to toxins during an experiment. This exposure gives her the ability to control plants and produce pheromones that can seduce or manipulate others.

It’s quite possible that Dr. Pamela Isley went insane during one of her experiments with the mushroom and she ended up at Arkham right around the same time as Sofia. It’s possible that it was Isley who told both the Arkham doctors and Sofia about the effects of the drug.

Reeves’ wants to avoid fantastical villains in his setting, yes, but he really doesn’t have to go down that road with Poison Ivy, she could simply be a mad scientist – even without the superpowers.

There’s also that issue with Trey Bloom. Trey Bloom could possibly be Mr. Bloom, also a villain from DC comics.

Mr. Bloom is introduced as a mysterious figure associated with Gotham’s criminal underworld. He becomes a significant threat to Batman and his allies in the ‘Batman’ series written by Scott Snyder.

He has the ability to create and manipulate various plant life, using them as weapons and tools in his criminal activities. He is capable of enhancing individuals by giving them powers, which he uses to create a new generation of supervillains and henchmen known as “Bloom’s minions.” These individuals typically gain enhanced abilities but often at the cost of their humanity.

As you can see it can go either way. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
