James McAvoy Sparks Confusion: One Day He’s Back as Professor X, the Next He’s “Too Old”

As we all know, the Mutants are on their way to the MCU, a fact that’s been anticipated ever since Disney acquired Fox. While some Mutants have already made appearances in the MCU, the iconic X-Men team has yet to arrive.

Although it might be a while before they officially join the universe, Marvel has promised a major introduction in the future.

Naturally, fans are most curious about who will portray their favorite characters, as the X-Men are expected to play a crucial role in the MCU. While the return of Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart seems more or less confirmed, there are still questions about the rest of the cast.

Specifically, while Patrick Stewart is rumored to reprise his role as an older Professor X, fans are wondering if James McAvoy, who portrayed the younger version in the earlier films, will return. However, McAvoy seems undecided about making a comeback!

Although James McAvoy is a fan favorite, with many praising his portrayal of the X-Men’s leader, his future in the role remains unclear. While McAvoy hasn’t completely ruled out a return, recent reports suggest that the actor has all but confirmed he won’t be reprising the beloved character anytime soon.

“That’s very kind. Although, I suspect, with both [Mr. Tumnus in Narnia] and [the X-Men’s Charles Xavier], we will be seeing someone else play those roles.”

Recently, McAvoy sparked speculation about not returning to the role during an interview where he talked about a potential sequel to his hit film Wanted, stating:

There were a couple of scripts that came my way for sequels, but they weren’t strong enough, so that’s why they never happened. If there was a script there that was absolutely banging, then, yeah, I’d be disappointed. But we made something that I’m really proud of. Timur [Bekmambetov] was really proud of it.

The studio was really proud of it. Everybody was really excited by it, and it’s stood the test of time a little bit. It’s always on streamers, and people are always watching it. I still get so much love for it from young people who weren’t alive back then.

So I’m proud of what we did, and I wouldn’t want to tarnish it by doing something that was not quite as strong. And, look, I’m too old to play Wesley now anyway. It’s a young person’s role now.

While this comment doesn’t directly relate to his role as Professor X, when paired with his previous statements, it suggests McAvoy may be moving on from the character. This news is disappointing for fans, but there’s still hope since nothing has been officially confirmed. We might just be in for a pleasant surprise down the road!
