Bruce Campbell Teases Major Reveal About His Character in ‘Doctor Strange 2’: “You think I’d sign a contract that thick for that simple throwaway character?”

Based on everything we’ve heard in the last few months, ‘Doctor Strange 3’ is in development at Marvel Studios. The latest rumors claim that Sam Raimi will direct with Cumberbatch and Wong set to return in their respective roles.

Dormammu, Strange’s most popular villain will also make an appearance in the movie which will presumably connect with rumors that Charlize Theron’s Clea will play a bigger role in the upcoming installment.

Based on his recent talk with Variety, Bruce Campbell hinted that one more character might return, this time as something much much greater. In ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Bruce Campbell plays Pizza Poppa.

Pizza Poppa was selling his pizza balls in New York City when Doctor Strange and America Chavez approached his stall. Chavez stole a pizza ball, believing food was free in their universe, but Pizza Poppa quickly realized the theft and demanded payment, revealing that food wasn’t free where they were.

Strange attempted to defuse the situation, but Pizza Poppa mistook him for his world’s fallen hero and accused him of stealing the hero’s clothing on display in a museum. He threatened to squirt mustard on Strange’s face, but Strange cast a spell that made Pizza Poppa squirt mustard on himself and punch himself repeatedly.

The interaction was weird and plenty of fans theorized that there’s more to Pizza Poppa than meets the eye. If Campbell is to be believed, we’re in for some big revelation:

I play the Pizza Poppa, but ask yourself, ‘Really? In the timeline, in the Marvel timeline, I’m just the Pizza Poppa?’ Please don’t kid yourself

My contract is [several inches] thick for that movie. You think I’d sign a contract that thick for that simple throwaway character?

Campbell further hinted at the true purpose of his character in the movie:

What did I do in that movie? I delayed Doctor Strange. I didn’t defeat him. We didn’t fight. I delayed him from what? Did I just save Doctor Strange’s life? The Marvel world is really just starting and again, I can only comment so much.

What Campbell is saying makes sense. Things rarely happen around Doctor Strange randomly and without purpose. If ‘Doctor Strange 3’ truly happens, perhaps we can see Campbell revealed as some cosmic entity, far greater than Doctor Strange.
