‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ premiered last Friday to horrific critics and audience scores. The movie currently holds a 33% approval rate by critics and a 32% approval rate by audiences, making it completely rotten.

The movie also received a “D” CinemaScore, the lowest so far for a superhero movie, although calling ‘Joker 2’ a superhero movie or even a comic adaptation would be a pretty big stretch.

During its opening weekend ‘Joker 2’ shattered some pretty unflattering records. With the movie being compared to ‘Morbius.’

Initially, box office predictions for the movie did not look good at all. The projected domestic opening for the film has been revised down to $55 million to $60 million across 4,000 U.S. theaters, utilizing IMAX and PLF screens. Ultimately, the movie brought in a modest $20 million on Friday, which includes $7 million from preview screenings

Now one week later, things took a turn for the worse. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ has experienced a significant downturn, earning just $2.2 million on its second Friday, marking an 89.1% drop from its opening day—one of the lowest second-weekend performances for a DC film released this century as per Deadline.

In comparison, other films faced notable declines: ‘Catwoman’ at $2 million (-66.6%), ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ at $2.1 million (-39.6%), ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ at $2.4 million (-79.9%), ‘Blue Beetle’ at $2.6 million (-73.7%), ‘Morbius’ at $2.9 million (-83.3%), and the original ‘Joker’ at $16.9 million (-57%).

Currently, ‘Joker 2’ has a cumulative total of $46.8 million in the U.S. and is projected to earn between $6.5 million and $7.5 million over its second three-day weekend, potentially setting a record with an 80%-83% drop in box office revenue.

With its low budget and strong box office performance, the original Joker is still the most profitable comic book film ever. ‘Joker 2’ production was three times as costly, the currently reported numbers being $200M, and it’s expected to earn 3 times less (or more) than the first movie during its theatrical run.
