‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Director Sheds Light on the Fate of a Key Character

“Venom: The Last Dance” is shaping up to be a major hit. While the first two movies weren’t perfect, Tom Hardy’s undeniable charisma helped turn them into box office successes, paving the way for a trilogy.

The third and final installment is set to release on October 25, 2024, and we’ll be covering all updates until then.

One of the most buzzworthy elements of the film has been Knull’s appearance, a topic that has dominated discussions since the movie was announced. However, in a recent interview with IGN, director Kelly Marcel shared some fascinating insights about the film.

In this article, we’ll focus on one notable revelation: the absence of a key character from the previous films, which Marcel explained during the interview. Here’s what we learned.

You may have noticed that Michelle Williams’ character, Anne Weying, will not be returning for the third and final installment. Anne plays a significant role in Eddie’s life, despite their tumultuous history. In fact, she and Venom are arguably the two most important figures in Eddie’s world.

While Venom will continue to be the film’s central character, Michelle Williams will not reprise her role. Director Kelly Marcel addressed this notable absence during an interview. Here’s what she had to say:

IGN: Anne Weying doesn’t appear to be in this sequel. Were there any discussions about bringing her back or has Eddie finally moved on from her? (Has he accepted that Venom is actually the love of his life? Only half-joking here!)

Marcel: Only half not joking in response, this story is really focused on Eddie and Venom and, shall we say, the “depth” of their relationship.

As Marcel mentioned, Anne’s return for the final film was never in the plans, as the writers aimed to focus exclusively on Eddie and Venom.

This narrative choice makes sense, but it’s hard to believe that Sony would completely exclude an A-list female lead purely for story reasons, especially since her character could have been integrated into the plot, even in a smaller role.

We suspect that Williams may have chosen not to return for personal reasons (if it were scheduling conflicts, that would likely have been made public), or perhaps the writers opted to write her character out for an unknown reason.

It’s possible that with the addition of Juno Temple, Sony decided against including another A-list actress due to budget constraints.

Regardless, Anne won’t be part of the movie, and we do know the official reasoning behind this decision.
