The DC universe expanded with the arrival of the Absolute Universe this fall. This new series offers a fresh spin on some of DC’s most popular characters, starting with new ongoing comics featuring Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman, each created by top-notch teams.

Absolute Batman focuses on a younger Bruce Wayne, who’s tough, muscular, and no longer comes from the wealthy background we usually know. This version of Bruce is an engineer who’s determined to solve the problems in his city.

Snyder and Dragotta’s fresh take on the Batman story also changed Alfred Pennyworth, who’s now a hardened ex-MI6 agent and mercenary. He’s not afraid to get into fights and doesn’t always agree with Gotham’s new vigilante.

Soon, we’ll get even more backstory as the first details about Absolute Batman #4 were revealed. Written by Snyder with guest artist Gabriel Walta, this issue will dive deeper into Bruce’s origin story and what drove him to start his fight against Gotham’s crime:

Absolute Batman has established himself as an extremely large force to be reck-oned with. But how did he get to this point? How did he push himself? And how did the tragic events of his childhood, and the advice of his father, shape the man who he became…literally?

Guest artist Gabriel Walta joins for this essential origin issue of Absolute Batman to explore Bruce Wayne’s past, and his inevitable future to go BIGGER. Don’t miss this pivotal issue!

Absolute Batman #4 will be released wherever comics are sold on Wednesday, January 8th.
