Earlier this year, Zoe Saldaña discussed the odds of her returning as Gamora to the franchise and to the MCU in general when she stated Gamora “is [gone for good] for me, but I don’t think Gamora has gone for good.”
Zoe hoped that there was yet potential for Gamora to return as a character played by a different actress. Now, more than six months later, Zoe Saldaña talked about Gamora’s MCU future once again.
Speaking with Variety, the actress said she lost some of her fire in the churn of one big-budget blockbuster after another:
“I wish I could go back and do a better job for Gamora [in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers‘ movies] and Uhura [in ‘Star Trek’]. But I guess I just … I think I did enough, but I could have done more. That’s just how I am.”
Saldaña has signed up for two more ‘Avatar’ sequels, which will keep her employed into her early 50s, plus Season 2 of ‘Lioness,’ which debuts on Oct. 27, and a long-in-development fourth ‘Star Trek’ movie.
But her time at Marvel may be over, and she’s content to wrap up her seven-year run with 2023’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and ready to pass the torch to another actor:
“Let it be a brown girl to play Gamora. Give that opportunity to a woman of color and see what the new Gamora is going to bring to the table. Like I brought Nyota Uhura to the table with Nichelle Nichols’ blessing.”
