Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her iconic role in The Matrix, recently addressed the unexpected cancellation of The Acolyte, her latest project on Disney+. Despite the show being cut short after just one season, Moss seemed unfazed by the decision. In an exclusive interview with SFFGazette, she reflected on the inherent unpredictability of television.

The Acolyte received mixed reviews from both fans and critics, though critics’ reactions leaned positive. Disney+’s choice to cancel the series surprised many, as the platform rarely pulls the plug on shows so abruptly.

The cancellation left several storylines unresolved, fueling discussion among the show’s followers.

Moss, who played Master Indara for just one season, drew parallels between her experience on The Acolyte and her time on Jessica Jones, another series that faced an unexpected cancellation.

‘Yeah, I don’t really invest in thinking about whether…it’s like when I was in a Marvel show [Jessica Jones] and I was really shocked when it got cancelled in the end. […]‘You kind of get used to that so you don’t really…you can’t even have a moment of disappointment. It’s just not worth it. It just happens. It’s part of it.’

Moss’s calm acceptance comes from her years of experience in an industry where sudden changes are the norm. She emphasized that abrupt endings are simply part of the career she’s chosen, and dwelling on them serves no purpose. Her approach is pragmatic, focused on moving forward rather than lingering on missed opportunities.

The fact that her character likely wouldn’t appear in the second season likely added to the indifference, as you likely know Master Indarra was killed in the pilot episode and later returned in a flashback.

This mindset reflects a seasoned actor’s ability to navigate the ups and downs of the film and TV world. Despite The Acolyte‘s cancellation, Moss’s portrayal of Master Indara was well-received by fans, adding another memorable character to her repertoire.
