No MCU Character Has a More Complicated Family Tree Than Billy Maximoff

‘Agatha All Along’ introduced one character we were all expecting to show up eventually – Billy Kaplan aka Billy Maximoff aka Wiccan. As you’re probably aware at this point, Billy Maximoff is the reincarnated son of Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

In the comics, Wiccan has a rather complicated “origin” story. While married to Vision, the Scarlet Witch used her powers to create twin boys, William and Thomas, from two stolen lost souls. Later, Mephisto took back those souls, but they were so changed by Wanda’s magic that they destroyed him.

William’s soul was then reborn in Billy Kaplan, the eldest son of Jeff Kaplan, a heart doctor, and Rebecca Kaplan, a psychologist. MCU storyline is similar enough, and due to this Billy Kaplan’s family is quite messy.

As you can see Billy’s maternal side is straightforward enough. Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver is his uncle, with Olek Maximoff and Iryna Maximoff serving as his grandparents.

Now due to Vision basically being an android, Billy’s paternal side is a mess. In the MCU, Vision was created by Ultron with the help of Helen Cho. So in a sense, both Ultron and Helen Cho would basically be Billy’s grandparents.

If you can recall while J.A.R.V.I.S. was being uploaded into Vision’s vibranium body Thor used Mjölnir to send lightning into the Cradle, which accelerated the development process and brought the body to life. Technically that would make Thor Billy’s grandparent as well since he was the one who co-created Vision alongside Cho and Ultron.

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner would in this case serve as great-grandparents since creating Ultron was their idea and one the biggest mistakes they ever made.

If you’re wondering where J.A.R.V.I.S. is, he doesn’t really count as a separate entity in this case since he is Vision and that’s why he was omitted.

Billy’s family tree might end up being even more complicated in the MCU when Tommy resurfaces, based on the way in which the MCU plans on bringing the boy back.
