Did ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Just Confirm What Happened with the Celestial’s Head, “Knowhere,” in the MCU?

MCU has plenty of mysteries, some are bound to be explored in future films and some are introduced ages ago never to be mentioned again, as a fun reference or an easter egg – Guardians’s current HQ “Knowhere” is one of them. One theory connected to the most unlikely of places SSU’s ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ might explain it!

As you’re aware by know “Knowhere” is a decapitated head of Celestial. In the MCU it was never mentioned how this head came to be decapitated or even which Celestial it belonged to.

Hundreds of years ago, the Tivan Group started mining inside the Celestial’s decapitated skull to collect its valuable bone, brain tissue, and spinal fluid. Without rules, Knowhere became a safe place for outlaws from all over the galaxy. This is pretty much where the history of the head begins in the MCU.

In the most recent ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ installment Knowhere serves as the headquarters of the team and has been turned into a safe haven for all the children and experiments rescued from High Evolutionary’s ship.

But how is this connected to Venom 3? Well, ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ introduced Knull – the King in Black to the big screen. Knull is one of the most powerful and terrifying villains and entities in the Marvel Universe with a pretty gruesome backstory.

Knull was an ancient evil god who ruled the Abyss, a void between the end of one universe and the beginning of another. He was made from primordial darkness, which existed before him. Knull originally slept in the Void but woke up when the Celestials started creating the universe.

They wanted him to be the King in Black, a protector of the new universe, but he refused and became angry. To show his rage, he made a sword from living darkness and killed one of the Celestials – decapitated him to be more exact.

The other Celestials cast him back into the void, but Knull used the dead Celestial’s head to forge a powerful sword called All-Black the Necrosword. Knull also created a dark suit of armor and began a violent campaign against other gods and all life, becoming – well, what we know today, a nightmarish abomination.

Now you’re wondering how are these two “events” connected, decapitated Celestial head in the MCU and Knull in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe?

Knull is not limited to a single universe as he is a Multiversal villain, it would be literally no problem at all for Knull to jump through different realities – in fact, this is something teased for the King in Black now that he has been introduced to the SSU.

It’s possible that Knull once visited Earth-616, perhaps he is originally from Earth-616 and he lashed out against the Celestials. Knull already being aware of Earth-616 might explain Gorr’s All-Black The Necrosword existing.

In ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ the sword’s origin is attributed to the Dark Shadow Lord before the sword eventually came into Gorr’s possession. This is not a good origin for the sword as Necrosword is one of the most popular weapons in Marvel Comics and it’s exclusively tied to Knull.

Having Knull pass the boundaries of the Multiverse would give the MCU the opportunity to explain the sword’s origin properly, and connect him to Gorr in a proper way.
