Next summer is going to be the summer of Superman as DCU’s first live-action project releases – ‘Superman.’ We know quite a bit about ‘Superman’ production since we were able to follow it live when it was filming around Georgia and Ohio. Set images and videos showcased one mysterious villain, and fans couldn’t agree on whether the villain in question was Ulysses or Ultraman.
Ultraman was already teased as the movie’s villain almost half a year ago, but Gunn was quick to debunk that rumor as soon as it resurfaced, claiming that the movie’s main villain was Lex Luthor.
Now recent McFarlane Toys leaked listing for the upcoming movie in fact revealed the true identity of the villain and if you assumed that the villain in question was Ultraman you would be correct!
As you can see there are plenty of stuff on this list including the “Superman Battling Kaiju” figurine but ultimately the only big spoiler is the presence of Ultraman, and the only mystery is “Baby Joe.”
Now Gunn is aware of this leak as fans pointed it out and he already addressed it. Regarding his previous “debunk” of Ultraman I just wanna say, that Gunn never really debunked this villain he simply stated that Lex Luthor would be THE MAIN villain.
That much is clear, if there’s a Superman story with Luthor in it, you can bet that Luthor is actually the one pulling all the strings. Ultraman will likely be the result of some experiment gone wrong and will likely be one of the villains to appear, but not the main nemesis to trouble Clark Kent.
Gunn also said that nothing from the upcoming toy line spoils the movie, as he has to “okay” all the toys in production:
