Ranker is a popular online platform where users can rank anything they like, however, and whenever they choose. This fan-driven ranking system is not officially affiliated with the creators of the projects being ranked.

Recently, Ranker conducted a comprehensive survey to determine the best superhero film sequels of all time. While the list includes over 50 titles, we’ve chosen to highlight the top ten films to give you a clearer picture, along with our own insights and commentary to enhance the report.

Recognizing the significance of this list, we are excited to share the results, counting down the top 10 movies from 10th place to the coveted first spot. We hope you enjoy it!

10. X-Men: Days of Future Past

The X-Men franchise has produced many films over the years, but none have made quite the impact as Days of Future Past. Not only was it the crossover event that fans had long been hoping for, but it also delivered a compelling storyline that demonstrated the depth and significance of these narratives, which is exactly what fans love to see.

9. Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is widely regarded as a near-perfect film. It stands out as the best installment in Sam Raimi’s trilogy and remains, without question, the finest Spider-Man film ever made.

With its compelling story, emotional depth, and a villain who is still considered one of the greatest comic book antagonists in cinematic history, it’s easy to see why this movie deserves its place. If it were up to us, we would likely rank it among the top three.

8. Logan

While technically not a direct sequel to any film, this standalone “sequel” undoubtedly deserves a spot in the top five, and it’s surprising to see it ranked so low on the list.

Logan had everything: much like Days of Future Past, its story carried significant weight and importance. This is what made the consequences resonate so deeply and why the film left such a lasting impact on audiences.

7. Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a multiversal triumph, delighting fans with the reunion of all three Spider-Men. However, the film wasn’t without its flaws. Its placement on this list is primarily due to the nostalgic appeal created by the trio of Spider-Men, which Marvel executed well. While we believe it deserves a spot on this list, we wouldn’t place it this high, to be honest.

6. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is undoubtedly the best Thor film and the only one that truly feels like a cohesive and well-crafted movie. Taika Waititi did an exceptional job, and the film had everything needed to resonate with audiences, which is why we can see its placement on this list. While we might not rank it this high ourselves, we agree with its inclusion and would also place it in our top 10.

5. Avengers: Endgame

null

Avengers: Endgame absolutely deserves a spot on this list—there’s no doubt about that. However, you might be surprised to see it outside the top three, and we actually agree with this placement.

While it represents the pinnacle of what Marvel has to offer, Endgame isn’t the boldest entry in the franchise. In several ways, it falls short when compared to Infinity War, which helps explain its ranking here.

4. Captain America: Civil War

It’s a complete mystery how this disappointing film, which derailed a fantastic comic book storyline, ended up in fourth place. While Civil War isn’t terrible, it is riddled with flaws that it attempts to mask by introducing new characters and generating hype among fans.

In fact, this is the only movie we believe shouldn’t even be on this list, especially considering that classics like Batman Returns, Superman II, The Dark Knight Rises, and several X-Men films didn’t make the cut.

3. Avengers: Infinity War

As mentioned earlier, Infinity War surpasses Endgame in that it was a bold film that truly pushed boundaries. Although Marvel quickly addressed some of its choices in Endgame, Infinity War stands strong as a standalone sequel, and we fully support its placement on this list. Whether it deserves to be in the top three is subjective, but we’re not overly concerned about its ranking at this point.

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Having The Winter Soldier in the second spot feels a bit strange. Don’t get us wrong—it’s an excellent sequel, surprisingly so—but we don’t believe it deserves to be labeled the second-best of all time. We might place it around the 10th position on this list because it truly is a strong film, but while we can understand its inclusion, we feel this ranking is somewhat inflated.

1. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is a flawless film in every regard, and there’s no denying that it stands as the greatest superhero sequel of all time. With Nolan’s masterful direction, outstanding performances from Bale and Ledger, brilliant supporting roles, and an absolutely captivating story, everything came together to ensure the movie’s success. We wholeheartedly support its position on this list.
